I LOVED this campground. The weather was not great when we went so we didn't get to explore the hiking trails but we had a great time staying close to camp (to weather out sporadic storms that kept passing through). Wish there was electricity but otherwise we had a great time.

This was my son's first camping trip and he loved it! The facilities were clean and you have access to showers which is nice for this type of camping. The sites are a little closer together than I would have liked, however it was still an overall great camping experience!

Bathroom had a couple of spiders in the corners, but that's probably inevitable for a restroom in the middle of the woods. Otherwise, it was SPOTLESS, and that is a big determinant of (female) quality of life while camping. Dirt-dirt is one thing, but dirty bathrooms are disgusting.

We stayed in the C-loop. Our spot was relatively secluded and offered plenty of space to pitch tents and a canopy. Although the campground was fairly crowded that weekend, we could not hear the other campers and overall had a very nice, relaxing weekend in the woods.

I originally planned on spending 3 nights at Oak Ridge, using it as an inexpensive sleeping area while I explored Washington, DC. The campground as clean and quiet. Maybe this was because I chose weeknights during the offseason, but in general I find NPS campgrounds to be the cleanest and quietest. My stay ended a night early, because while I was in the bathroom and bear decided to inspect my tent. I was only gone a few minutes, and at 1 AM there wasn't enough light to tell if the tent was knocked over by a bear doing bear things or a psycho human. I spent the rest of that night in my car with the doors locked and keys in the ignition. After sunrise I could see that it was a bear that came to visit and not an axe murderer, so I felt much better. In the future, I would probably set up a perimeter with some noisy cans or something on twine and hope that any bears walking through would trip on it and be frightened by the noise.

GPS devices will sometimes try to take you on closed gravel service roads to the campground. The only vehicle entrance to the campground is through the main park entrance on VA 619/Joplin Road. Try using 18511 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172 to get to the main park entrance and following signs in the park to the campground.
From Washington, D.C., and points north, take I-95 south to exit 150-B toward VA Route 619/Joplin Road. The park entrance is the second right. It is an additional 15-20 minute drive from the park entrance to Oak Ridge Campground.
From Fredericksburg, Virginia, and points south, take I-95 north to exit 150 toward VA Route 619/Joplin Road. Turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp and continue on VA Route 619 West approximately 1/4 mi to the park entrance.
Washington Dulles International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport are approximately 45 minutes drive-time from Prince William Forest Park. Baltimore/Washington International Airport and Richmond International Airport are 90 minutes away.
There is no bus service near the park. Local commuter buses may be available near the park via the PRTC system. Amtrak and Virginia Railway Express services are available in nearby Quantico, Virginia, approximately 5 mi from the park entrance. There is no public transportation directly to the park.
Oak Ridge Campground is accessible via I-95, with exit 150-B providing access to VA Route 619/Joplin Road, which leads to the main park entrance.
