About Oak Ridge Campground

Oak Ridge Campground is a 100-site, wooded campground located in Prince William Forest Park, 35 mi (34.8 mi) southwest of Washington, DC. The park's land was set aside during the Great Depression, and in 1935 the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the previously over-farmed acreage, converting it to recreational lands for public use. The CCC built trails, dams and cabins, making the park a wonderful place for recreation and relaxation. Large group camping is not permitted at Oak Ridge Campground. It's nobody's fault, but the camp sites are so close together that I could have a conversation with the people in the next camp at normal indoor voice volume.

Great campground. Well maintained. The host was great, very friendly, attentive, and consistently made rounds that indicated their commitment as hosts. We are repeat campers that will continue to come back.

Had a much better time this time around. Neighbors were much quieter, and this site was very nice. Bring firewood, since scavenging for firewood is tough, and when it's wet (like it was for us), you'll spend a lot of time keeping your fire going. Hardest part this time was the ticks (killed six just setting up the tent) and the super loud motorcycle groups on the nearby roadway that kept going up and down the road after midnight. All things considered, it was a great time, though. Will stay again.

Enjoyed our site and had a fun and memorable weekend. The site was very quiet and a quick walk to the bathroom. Went on a hike and enjoyed the weekend. Went to Fredericksburg for pizza and a bookstore.

Wonderful campground overall, but the extremely loud neighboring campers unfortunately ruined the experience. I was pretty surprised that campers on both sides of our site were being very loud well past midnight (and until around 2am). Coupled with kids racing up and down the path early in the morning, we got almost no sleep with our kiddos. If people respected the quiet hours, this place would be top notch. Plenty of downed wood to use for the fire pit. The ground was a bit sloped but worked fine for our tent. The men's bathrooms were funky, but that's to be expected I guess. Overall the site itself was great. Will try again to see if we get a better group of neighbors next time.
