About Oak Ridge Campground

Oak Ridge Campground is a 100-site, wooded campground located in Prince William Forest Park, 35 mi (34.8 mi) southwest of Washington, DC. The park's land was set aside during the Great Depression, and in 1935 the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the previously over-farmed acreage, converting it to recreational lands for public use. The CCC built trails, dams and cabins, making the park a wonderful place for recreation and relaxation. Large group camping is not permitted at Oak Ridge Campground. On our third visit, we were met with a tree trunk across the middle of the campsite and large branches left lay after cutting said tree up. We were able to move the majority of it off to the side and set up. Facilities are well kept. Left a day early when the hoards arrived, even though the night was dipping into the low 30’s, large groups were setting up in multiple adjacent sites, and the couple across from us had two dogs that were barking INCESSANTLY, straining their collars and snarling at anyone who walked by. Unless you’re with a large group and don’t care about listening to toddlers cry well into the night, go as far out on C loop as you can. I would never camp here prime time, it is far too cramped.

I like the location because it's near places of interest like the Museum of the US Marine Corps and it's a nice place to camp. Facilities are good, sites are reasonably sized.

I went tent camping here and the site I had was fantastic! It was very clean and had a nice flat spot to set up the tent. The bathrooms were also very nice, they seemed almost brand new and were extremely clean- much better than I was expecting. I would recommend this campground to anyone who likes to camp out without water or electric hookups, I know I’ll definitely be coming back!

Nice campground, the bathrooms are very nice for a campground. Only complaint which couldn’t be controlled was a whippoorwill that decided to sing all night long.

Everything went great! There was no one working the site, but it wasn’t a problem.

Also, there was no one working the entry to the park. So we just drove in without paying. Then on the way out (next morning) they were working the station and kind of gave us a little grief from not paying or having a pass on our car. Which was kind of annoying since it was there fault the station was closed on the way in. I think some of this might have to do with Covid but who knows.
