About Oak Ridge Campground

Oak Ridge Campground is a 100-site, wooded campground located in Prince William Forest Park, 35 mi (34.8 mi) southwest of Washington, DC. The park's land was set aside during the Great Depression, and in 1935 the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the previously over-farmed acreage, converting it to recreational lands for public use. The CCC built trails, dams and cabins, making the park a wonderful place for recreation and relaxation. Large group camping is not permitted at Oak Ridge Campground. The grounds were as clean as nature can be, and the sites around for hiking were great. I was also impressed by the bathroom and SHOWER facilities, both exceptionally clean. Could just be me but ive never had either where ive gone before so it was a pleasant surprise. Also we weren't bothered at all by other campers (not to mention people that use RV's are seperated from those who want a real camping experience haha) or forest patrol lile iv'e seen some people say. In fact when i first arrived we were greeted by a kind gentleman who helped us get the lay of the land and with anything else we needed. Overall the Oak Ridge campgrounds were everything i could have imagined, highly reccomend.

The park and camping area are gorgeous and overall very peaceful! Our site specifically felt very private where some of the others seem a little right on top of each other. Our only complaint was an EXTREMELY loud group of Scouts who were camping in a cluster of four other sites across the loop from us. Despite the distance they did manage to wake us up several times the first night we were there (they were loud well into the night, I was startled awake by their shouting around midnight which is well after quiet hours).

In spite of that though, the site was so nice we’ve already made plans to come back a little later this fall (we’ll just cross our fingers no scout troops have the same idea!)
