A fantastic spot to get away for a few days or more. The water is as clear as you could hope for. Camp sites could be a little more private but a fantastic experience overall. Be sure to pick up water, ice and firwood on your way in.

Absolutely love Bolar Mountain & Lake Moomaw. The water is so clear and beautiful, perfect for swimming and paddle boarding. Our site (54) had beach access and a partial view of the mountains. There is a small marina store nearby if you forget any essentials.

Another excellent trip to Moomaw. Bathrooms were clean, and cleaned regularly. Unfortunately two of the water spigots were out of service and required a longer walk to get fresh water, but it wasn't much of an inconvenience. The lake was uncharacteristically full for the time of year we visited, which was nice.

Access to this location is less then desirable. Roads are narrow and dangerous at night.

Im not one of those people that comes back to the same spot again and again because I believe there's just too much out there to see to keep coming back to the same place; except Lake Moomaw--I cant stay away. Its beautiful, serene, the water is so clean and clear, and it's not super populated. Love it so much!

The host were great. They kept the bathrooms and showers clean plus picked up the trash.
However, the grass had not been cut, which made it very dangerous for walking our animals, and the children running up and down through the tall grass. Some of the grass was so tall that you could not see properly when you exited the beach and the picnic area.
Twin Peaks overlook is virtually impossible to arrive. Itβs not been trimmed trees across the path. It was horrible so sad that this campground is not taking better care of.

Know your route ahead of time, cell service will be intermitten if available at all.
From Covington, take 220 North to Hwy 39 and turn left on Hwy 39. Take Hwy 39 to Hwy 600 (Bolars Draft Road) and turn left on Hwy 600 towards the campgrounds. After about 7.5 miles turn right on Twin Ridge Drive for all campgrounds. Stay straight to head towards the store & marina, an overlook of the lake and McClintic Point.
**GPS often routes vehicles to take Richardson Gorge rd. via the Jackson River tpk. This route is NOT SUGGESTED for travel, especially when towing. It's a narrow dirt road with steep soft edges. Multiple accidents occur on this road each year.**
