Hood Park

This was an awful experience. We drove from California for a professional bass tournament. Got there and the place was pretty nice. In the morning we went to leave and we’re locked in! I’ve never been to a place were they lock you in! Usually they have spike strips so you can leave but no one new can enter. It was a safety hazard. What if an emergency happened or you needed to leave due to something else. Well needless to say we had to find accommodations elsewhere. We had already paid for 6 nights and were out the money

As typical COE campgrounds, this was great. We had a great spot with a good view of the Snake River. But on our next to last night there we lost power on one leg of the 50 amp service. The Host were able to move us to the site next to us. We still had a great view of the Snake River. For us we had a rarity for a COE site, we had FHUs! The site was level, water pressure was good at 40 PSI, power was over 118 vac, sewer had a heavy metal flip cap to hold the hose in place and was located close to the ground. There is a lot of shade in this campground so getting satellite TV can be a challenge. We were not able to receive satellite TV in our sites 44 and 41. The only negative here is the massive infestation of spiders! Each morning I would remove 30 or 40+ spiders from the outside of our motor home. There are spiders everywhere. I talk to the Host and this is typical starting May/June through September/October. AT&T cell service was good and AT&T LTE data was great with 149 Mbps upload and 39 Mbps download.

The campground itself was nice enough. But there were SO MANY geese around that the whole campground smelled like a sewer. Also the spiders were ENORMOUS and EVERYWHERE. The swim area was okay, but you had to fight the geese off, and the water didn't seem clean.

Good and bad:

The facilities were clean and park personnel friendly and helpful. Campground very shady. Electrical at each site was a real surprise/bonus! The river was very pleasant for kayaking, once we got through the "stinky" algae and weedy section.

Bad: the park and shade trees are crawling with spiders-very large ones! We were camping in a Vanagon-thank goodness not a tent! In the morning our van was covered with spiders and there were at least a dozen around the inside of the door openings. We were even killing them after arriving back home.

We enjoyed our RV stay. The price was right. The campground was well laid out, plenty of sites, helpful host. Electricity only available at site, but good potable water available at the campground entrance. Things to watch out for: direction of sprinkler spray (good you had a chart), lots of spiders, geese were everywhere along the shoreline, river traffic and train on the opposite shore at night.

Activities to include: We were there to visit the Whitman Mission Historical site half an hour away. The Visitor Center was closed Monday and Tuesday, but we did not know that until we made the drive. We just toured the grounds alone with the aid of a brochure at the door. Restrooms were open and drinking water supply was still available.

Saw the Lewis and Clark historical marker and would like more information available for that history. We did not make it to the Sacajawea State Park or Fort McNary due to time restaints but would love to know information about those nearby sites as well. We would be interested in seeing the Hood Farm layout or a living heritage center at the park one day. We enjoyed sunset on the river, paddleboarding, but getting into the water was dirty due to the geese on the beach and the algae on the edge.

Nice sites, fun place to camp and swim close to home.

The campground was green with lots of trees. The only negative I have was the overwhelming spiders everywhere. It was challenging to keep them out of vehicle.

The park was nice but it was severely over run by a spider infestation. So disgusting that we stayed in the TT until we left. Upon packing up had to shake spiders off everything and still found them later that day at our next stop. They really were everywhere!

Too many spiders!! Why don’t they spray? We probably won’t be back. Also the geese are over running the shore. Had to walk in some slimy poop to get to the water. Sad. Worse government park ever….

Park was clean and quiet. We did not use the showers or bathrooms.
