Chief Timothy Campground

Chief Timothy is one of my favorite places to visit in this area. Kayaking around this island is amazing and relaxing. Not many boaters use this area so it’s quiet, there is plenty of wildlife, enjoyable fishing, and just a peaceful area. Jordan and his crew have worked hard to keep the island up. It’s always sad when you might lose a place like Chief Timothy. I definitely recommend going out and walking the trail if you want a peaceful moment that’s close by.

Once again we had such an awesome time staying at this park. From the moment we arrived on the Friday the June 26th til we pulled out on the morning of the 5th of July we were always greeted and checked on by the staff checking to see how things were going and if we needed any assistance with anything. We are already making our plans to come stay again next year for another 10 day stay. Our group grabs 5 pull through full hook up spots each year. We love bringing the boats and floaties. We enjoy the swim area, basket ball hoop and the shaded areas for Cornhole.....Jordon, Glen and Hanna are awesome. We have been loyal campers there for many years and it is sad that several years before they came to work there that the group tending to the park closed it for the year without winterizing the park which caused damage to the watering system but this crew is doing their best to make things green and presentable as possible. They are a set of hard workers and that is why they have repeat customers like us.

I stayed here for a quick overnight stop while passing through town, and unfortunately it was one of the worst campground experiences I've had. Our campsite was covered in dog feces, garbage, wasps, and we even found a used condom.
We tried to move to another site, but nearly all of the drive-in tent sites had similar issues— garbage, dog waste, and large numbers of wasps (we were stung). Was also a huge pile of garbage with rotting food that looked like it had been sitting there for weeks. You could smell this from probably half the campground.
The washrooms were filthy which wasn't surprising given the overall condition of everything else.
We eventually moved ourselves to an empty RV site at the bottom, which was slightly cleaner, but still not great.
It's a beautiful location being let down by caretakers/managers who don't seem to care at all.

Needless to say, we won't be returning.

Great experience! The dumpsters, showers, and bathrooms are nearby. This is very important as I am a fluffy person and some campgrounds space their facilities so far out that it makes a difference.
I also really like that there is a sectioned off area for people to swim and a place where pets can enjoy water, too. There's even an playground for the kids It's extremely family friendly for those who want to camp, but not really be out in the middle of nowhere.
We were having so much fun, we forgot to take pictures.
We will for sure be coming back!

We have gone here for years, every Mothers day. It's a great place to kayak, fish and play in the water.
This year (2026) was like the park is abandoned and very poorly cared for.😪 They open April 1st, but the leaves from last fall were all still there and very little mowing had been done. There was no host and no one around to ask about anything.
There used to be young adults in a golf cart handing out roses to the Mom's in the park on Mothers day too. Was such a great gesture!
Very few campers there anymore and just was rundown and looking like it's about to close.
Hoping this is not the case and maybe it's just in need of a private owner who cares, a BLM to purchase it or at least a great camp host who wants to help bring it back to life!
