About Hoh Rainforest Campground

The reservation season for the 2026 summer season for the Hoh campground is June 12, 2026 - September 6, 2026.Important information about booking windows: To better serve visitors, Hoh Campground will be releasing campsites in a series of three staggered block releases by loop. These block releases will be 6 months in advance, two weeks in advance, and 4 days in advance. • A loop campsites will be available for reservation 6 months in advance.• C loop campsites will be available for reservations two weeks in advance.• B loop campsites will be available for reservations 4 days in advance.  Outside the reservation season, Hoh Campground is open for camping on a first-come, first-served basis. Some campsites may be closed during winter.  The Hoh Rain Forest, pronounced "Hoe", earns its name from the ever-flowing Hoh River that carves its way from Mount Olympus towards the Pacific Coast. However, where the name originates, is up for debate. The word "Hoh" undoubtedly comes from Native American languages; possibly the Quileute word "Ohalet" which means "fast moving water" or "snow water." Since the river itself forms from glacial runoff, that origin seems straightforward. Other explanations state that the Quinault word "Qu," meaning "boundary," could be the root of the name as a river as massive as the Hoh certainly forms a formidable boundary across the landscape. A third consideration claims that the word "Hoh" translates to "man with quarreling wives." What the actual history behind the name is, appears to be lost to time. Regardless of the name, there's no question as to the allure that draws visitors back to the rainforest year after year. Throughout the winter season, rain falls frequently in the Hoh Rain Forest, contributing to the yearly average of 140 inches (3.55 meters) of precipitation each year. The result is a lush, green canopy of both coniferous and deciduous species. Mosses and ferns that blanket the surfaces add another dimension to the enchantment of the rainforest.

What Guests Are Saying

The Hoh Rainforest Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained setting, with clean facilities and friendly staff. Campers enjoyed the spacious sites, easy access to hiking trails, and educational ranger programs, which enhanced their experience. However, many noted issues with the lack of running water in restrooms and long wait times to enter the park, which could detract from the overall experience.

This was an excellent campground! Easy to get into, bathrooms accessible, nice, flat sites. The campground is an easy walk to the visitor center and trail heads. The thing that made our stay excellent though was the camp host. She was amazing! Super friendly, incredibly helpful, and kept the place running like a well oiled machine! I hope the park realizes what a gem they have in her.

Good campsites. Some mowing needed around sites and bathrooms in Loop A needed maintenance.

We camped at this spot last year. We loved it so much, we snagged it again this year for my mom’s visit. We love this spot so much!

Amazing campground. We stayed in loop A, which’s sites are more open as it is part of the river’s flood basin. Other loops had more shaded sites. Access to 2 short hiking loops in the rain forest which are just gorgeous. Rangers at visitor center were super engaging and also lead daily hikes and kids info sessions.

Since we planned to drive to Hoh Rainforest from California, we had to log in at the exact time the campground reservation opened. We had a list of preferred sites and carefully planned how we could ensure we get a spot. While we didn't get our first choice, we did reserve a nice site. It's sad to now reflect on that excitement since we never got to even see the campground, much less stay in our reserved site. The problem is, to get into the Hoh campground you have to wait in an insanely long line, and sit idling in your car for 2+ hours. They even have signs along the road telling you how long your wait will be from that sign post. I have no idea why this isn't mentioned when making a reservation, much less on the website. Sitting there, we realized we had no idea what we were getting into and worried that we would also have a long wait to get out - which would mess up our next stop. We had to ask the drivers in front of us and behind us to help us turn our van around so we could get out of line. Trailers and motorhomes would not be able to do this - the road is too narrow. The people who run this campground and incompetent and ignorant. Until they change their entry procedures, I suggest no one waste their hard earned vacation days trying to get to your previously reserved camp site at Hoh.

I was surprised that a campground in a rainforest did not feel like we were in a rainforest. The sites were small and very exposed. It wasn't a favorite. The best part was the location as it was walking distance to the visitor center and trails.
