About Hoh Rainforest Campground

The reservation season for the 2026 summer season for the Hoh campground is June 12, 2026 - September 6, 2026.Important information about booking windows: To better serve visitors, Hoh Campground will be releasing campsites in a series of three staggered block releases by loop. These block releases will be 6 months in advance, two weeks in advance, and 4 days in advance. • A loop campsites will be available for reservation 6 months in advance.• C loop campsites will be available for reservations two weeks in advance.• B loop campsites will be available for reservations 4 days in advance.  Outside the reservation season, Hoh Campground is open for camping on a first-come, first-served basis. Some campsites may be closed during winter.  The Hoh Rain Forest, pronounced "Hoe", earns its name from the ever-flowing Hoh River that carves its way from Mount Olympus towards the Pacific Coast. However, where the name originates, is up for debate. The word "Hoh" undoubtedly comes from Native American languages; possibly the Quileute word "Ohalet" which means "fast moving water" or "snow water." Since the river itself forms from glacial runoff, that origin seems straightforward. Other explanations state that the Quinault word "Qu," meaning "boundary," could be the root of the name as a river as massive as the Hoh certainly forms a formidable boundary across the landscape. A third consideration claims that the word "Hoh" translates to "man with quarreling wives." What the actual history behind the name is, appears to be lost to time. Regardless of the name, there's no question as to the allure that draws visitors back to the rainforest year after year. Throughout the winter season, rain falls frequently in the Hoh Rain Forest, contributing to the yearly average of 140 inches (11.6 ft) of precipitation each year. The result is a lush, green canopy of both coniferous and deciduous species. Mosses and ferns that blanket the surfaces add another dimension to the enchantment of the rainforest.

What Guests Are Saying

The Hoh Rainforest Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained setting, with clean facilities and friendly staff. Campers enjoyed the spacious sites, easy access to hiking trails, and educational ranger programs, which enhanced their experience. However, many noted issues with the lack of running water in restrooms and long wait times to enter the park, which could detract from the overall experience.

Clean campground, Bathrooms are nice, alot of camp sites explanations are misleading. The rain forest is nice but there's really only 1 hiking trail... only worth a day trip. In addition mosquitos are not bad but can be annoying.

We had a wonderful experience at HohRiver campground. The campground was quiet and peaceful. Our campsite was nice with enough room for a tent and small trailer. We enjoyed seeing the Roosevelt Elk grazing in the campground in the early morning. We thought the bulletin board gave good information concerning the wildlife and a heads up too. We attended the campfire talk and slideshow on mushrooms. It was very informative and interesting. The hikes were amazing with the waterfall hike just the right distance for a morning jaunt, the hall of mosses is wonderful for a slow meandering walk to take in the boundless beauty of the ecosystem. The Spruce walk was lovely with its serene gentle path that brings you to the shimmering Hoh River on its way through this amazing forest. We stayed 5 days and could have stayed longer. Next time. Thank you for your hard work in the maintenance of this treasure.

The Hoh Rain Forest contains an incredible number of tall, old Sitka Spruce trees. They are the biggest and most concentrated I've ever seen in any PNW forest! They and the large moss-draped 'big leaf maple' trees are the reasons to visit. Our Site, #8, was large, pretty, shaded, and private, but many sites are not very private and are wide open. We pulled a small teardrop trailer using a Ford 150 and had plenty of room for parking. The campground was very quiet, probably because most sites were occupied by couples in small campers, vans or tents. Most stay only 1-2 nights, which is plenty of time to check out the two short hikes or partially hike the long Hoh River trail. The bathrooms were clean and new with flush toilets and warm water to the hand washing sinks. There were outdoor sinks for washing dishes.

The campground was so beautiful and of course the setting in the Hoh Rainforest is unique and wonderful. However, I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the restrooms. Not only was there no soap available, but the garbage was not emptied once in a 48 hour period. Soap is required to clean hands. Also, the camp fire pit was full of ashes, 6 inches deep. In normal campgrounds these are cleaned out when full. Kalaloch, amazingly, had even dirtier bathrooms, and I know the parks are under a lot of pressure from overuse, but you shouldn't short-change the custodial services.

Great site on the river with an elk view. The hiking is excellent. Too many people but that is a good problem.
