About Hoh Rainforest Campground

The reservation season for the 2026 summer season for the Hoh campground is June 12, 2026 - September 6, 2026.Important information about booking windows: To better serve visitors, Hoh Campground will be releasing campsites in a series of three staggered block releases by loop. These block releases will be 6 months in advance, two weeks in advance, and 4 days in advance. • A loop campsites will be available for reservation 6 months in advance.• C loop campsites will be available for reservations two weeks in advance.• B loop campsites will be available for reservations 4 days in advance.  Outside the reservation season, Hoh Campground is open for camping on a first-come, first-served basis. Some campsites may be closed during winter.  The Hoh Rain Forest, pronounced "Hoe", earns its name from the ever-flowing Hoh River that carves its way from Mount Olympus towards the Pacific Coast. However, where the name originates, is up for debate. The word "Hoh" undoubtedly comes from Native American languages; possibly the Quileute word "Ohalet" which means "fast moving water" or "snow water." Since the river itself forms from glacial runoff, that origin seems straightforward. Other explanations state that the Quinault word "Qu," meaning "boundary," could be the root of the name as a river as massive as the Hoh certainly forms a formidable boundary across the landscape. A third consideration claims that the word "Hoh" translates to "man with quarreling wives." What the actual history behind the name is, appears to be lost to time. Regardless of the name, there's no question as to the allure that draws visitors back to the rainforest year after year. Throughout the winter season, rain falls frequently in the Hoh Rain Forest, contributing to the yearly average of 140 inches (11.6 ft) of precipitation each year. The result is a lush, green canopy of both coniferous and deciduous species. Mosses and ferns that blanket the surfaces add another dimension to the enchantment of the rainforest.

What Guests Are Saying

The Hoh Rainforest Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained setting, with clean facilities and friendly staff. Campers enjoyed the spacious sites, easy access to hiking trails, and educational ranger programs, which enhanced their experience. However, many noted issues with the lack of running water in restrooms and long wait times to enter the park, which could detract from the overall experience.

After waiting more than two hours we turned around and left. We never got to our campsite.

Great location. Easy to walk over to the visitor center and hike the hoh rainforest trails. The dish washing station had no water and there was no other faucets for fresh water aside from the bathrooms. (Bathrooms also didn’t have soap, come prepared). We did find a low to the ground “maintenance” faucet on the outside of the bathroom building where we could get water for coffee. Other than that all was great!

Beautiful campground with lots of wildlife and nice facilities. It is tied right in to the visitor center / day use parking area, so it was a bit of a zoo for most of the day. It was a little frustrating to know I had a reserved site and parking spot but still got caught in the 2-hour traffic outside the entrance station because of the full day-use parking lot; there was just no other way to the campground. That’s on me for trying to hit this site on a holiday weekend (haha).

Bathroom facilities great, was hoping the campground had more tree cover and was pretty open. Would recommend a non-corner/curve spot if car camping as your vehicle is basically on the road outside the campsite.

We were in a van but had plenty of room to park in our site. The site was beautiful and mostly private. You could walk almost straight down to the Hoh River. Bathrooms ok. You could walk to the visitor center but we drove to park our van in the sun. Most facilities were rather crowded. Parking was a challenge at times.
