Adams Fork Campground

When camping here, a few things you should know that this site doesn’t explain. 1. There really isn’t river access unless you can reserve a site right on the river. There is no day use (at least not that I found) so swimming and things like that aren’t an option. 2. Its REALLY dark at night, I know you’re thinking duh! But the only light you see will be what you bring. 3. Pack a lot of water, there is only 1 really funky water pump that could be really far from your camp site and you will be hauling water your whole trip.
The camp site are spaced nicely and the bathrooms were maintained. Bugs and moths were very prominent, so be prepared for that. Lots of tall trees so there is good shade in all the camp sites. Was easy to find and a really nice drive!

Awesome campground, close to pristine lakes, views and rivers.
The trees are huge, offering lovely shade and shelter for large campsites.
ORV folks are quiet and respectful.

The location was beautiful. But the one glaring flaw with the campground was that there was no way to dispose of your garbage! I've never seen a National Parks campground that didn't supply a means of disposing of your garbage! Normally a "pack out" rule is only applied to walk in tent sites. We only stayed at the campground 2 out of the 4 days we had reserved because living with the garbage 5 people created and trying to stash the garbage bags in our vehicles was getting old. And the hoard of chipmunks were starting to get aggressive.

For best hike I would recommend Council Bluff Trail, about 10-20 miles away depending on route (some on dirt roads), but with spectacular views.
The camping has static toilets (single) with no running water, and water is available from the river on hand pump from what I could see, so definitely on the wild side, but worth the nature side of it (watch for the chipmunks, cute, cuddly and fast on food, no other wildlife around).

Great, clean, quiet campground with beautiful location next to the river. Hosts kept the place super clean. But long distance to great hiking and the roads were in poor shape in places, especially between Takhlakh and Killeen Creek trailhead.
