We've stayed at Louella several times and always enjoy it.
Although we've stayed at Louella in December before, this was our first time with snow/ice. There were no provided shovels or other tools to remove the ice from the front steps and it was quite treacherous. We ended up sprinkling some regular table salt, and clearing a path down the stairs by scraping with a hatchet we'd brought. If you're visiting in winter you should probably bring something, at the very least some ice melt. Also, any coffee drinkers should bring some sort of French press or drip/pour over type system. The two vintage percolators onsite don't work very well, and require a very coarse grind in order for their filters to not just let the grinds pass right through. Our coffee was ground for drip, and we ended up having to retrofit a percolator with a paper coffee filter cut down to size.
The mattress on the double bed was also hard as a rock and we had a very hard time sleeping (our recollection of our last visit was a mattress that was old and with very little support, I guess this is supposed to be an improvement). That was unfortunate since one of the goals of any vacation for us is to get more sleep! The rest of the cabin was cozy and we enjoyed our stay.

Cabin was missing the futon pad. There was a frame, but no cushion for hanging out or sleeping in the living room, making the place uncomfortable to hang out. Also, note that with the missing pad the place only sleeps 4 not 6. This was a major bummer for our group. Next, the thermostat is broken, so the directions do not work. Luckily the gas fireplace/stove works ok manually, but it overheats and turns off before the cabin is very warm. Bring layers. Beds are dirty, with mold under mattress in main bedroom. Definitely bring your own sheets. Be aware, the "Queen" in the bedroom is actually a double. Fire pit is useless, as it is right next to the port-a-potty. All that said, we had a lovely time. Just know what your are signing up for. Fridge and cooking stove/oven work great. Electric lights work great too. No running water. We love the local hikes in the area. This is a great location. Also, there's a lovely historic orchard on the property with apples and pears.

Didn't know that pots, pans, plates and utensils were provided so we had brought our own. Also didn't know that there's a gas stove in the kitchen, too. Bring folding chairs to sit outside and watch the stars, satellites, and shooting stars from the front yard!

Sweet cabin near many trails in the Olympics. Very comfortable bed. We enjoyed the history of this place built
in 1926.
Staying here was so much easier than camping this time of year. Toasty gas fireplace in Am. Also,Owls, full moon and stars which you viewed on your walk to the porta potty.

I loved having the cabin all to myself! Someone started a story about a ghost in the cabin and folks have built upon the tale by leaving clues about the ghost mystery around the cabin, which I thought was great. If you’re lucky enough to get this cabin, consider yourself lucky!

Such a cool cabin! We didn't see or hear any signs of mice. Outhouse was very clean. All appliances worked great in the kitchen. We had a great time.
