The campground was gorgeous, and the lake was great for a quick swim. True to the other reviews, the whole toilet was one of the cleanest I have ever used. However, the horseflies were pretty intense, so be aware of this if you are planning a midsummer trip. I can't count that against the campground, though; the flies live there, and I got to enjoy the great outdoors.

Not busy. Loads of black flies and mosquitoes made it almost unbearable unless we stayed in a screen room.
Stairs to the lake were closed due to ground wasps. Bathrooms and water pump were a bit of a hike from our site. Not much to do or see. No cell service.

Our experience camping was great as usual at Bear Lake the only issue was the camp host. Not sure if he was just bored because there weren’t many campers or what but he was actually kind of harassing us.
We walked our dogs (on leashes) and he followed us told not to go on the beach area which we already knew not to do that.
My son was going out to fish on the lake and he stopped him saying ‘it’s check out time you can’t go fishing!’ We had the site booked for 3 night and he didn’t bother to ask if we were staying.
On the last day our son took the garbage to the dumpster at 10:00am and the host stopped him to ask to ask if we were packing up because we had to leave this morning.
We know the rules of the campground and follow them not sure why he felt the need to supervise us so closely.
We never had an issue before but not sure if we will go back if this guy is still there.

Bear lake is lovely. I want to give a shout out to Lar the camp host since I often read poor reviews of camp hosts.
He was very personable and helpful in helping me find the site that worked best for me.
The sites and facilities were very clean.
He keeps a close eye out without being intrusive.
Chequamegon-Nicolet NF and campers are lucky to have him.
