About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

Nice campground and good spot in it. There is only one campsite near by, meaning that we did not feel neighbours around. Super nice view. The only disadvantage for this specific campsite is that it is quite far from the bathroom.

Gros Ventre campground appears to be a newer park. It is easy to navigate, the grounds are well manicured with native vegetation, bathrooms are newly painted and well maintained, employees/hosts are kind and helpful. The only suggestion would be to build separate entrance and exit roads. We were stuck behind a long line of vehicles because a trailer ahead was having problems backing into his site.
I would highly recommend Gros Ventre campground.

Gros Ventre campground is a favorite destination for us - this was our first fall visit (week prior to the campground shutting down). It was wonderful as usual, however, this time many of the sites around us were vacant adding to the experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, campground well maintained, and scenery spectacular. There was a large fire that started from lightning in the mountains outside the park causing visibility issues and this event was mitigated by a south/southwest wind which cleared the park and surrounding area revealing the incredible Tetons. A great destination!

Well spaced, level, and paved parking spaces. Large bear boxes useful for securing many items, including firewood ;). Moose every morning in camp areas. Clean bathrooms, but older low dish water disposal station (needs updating to counter and sink like Yellowstone camp grounds). Given nightly price, should have showers.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
