About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

This is a very well laid out campground with more than 300 sites. It was very warm when we were there and our loop allowed generators, but it was pretty chill with only a few folks running A/C with very quiet generators. Entrance hosts were terrific and offered ice and firewood right as they checked you in. Based on the map, you will expect to have outrageous views of the Tetons, but this is not the case as Blacktail Butte rises just high enough between you and them so they are not visible. No matter because five minutes in the car or on your bike and you can get the full and glorious effect. If you do have bikes, take advantage of the excellent bike path that runs for close to twenty miles along the base of the range. At Jenny Lake they allow bikes to ride in a separated lane around the gorgeous one-way loop road. Totally worth it.

Used the dump station on leaving with no wait and easy in/out access. Was also happy to find their fresh water fill was AWAY from the dump so cross-contamination was no issue. Threaded hose bib made fill-up a breeze.

The dump station is a public health risk. I can’t believe this can be as bad as it is in our national parks system. I reported it to the parks management and hoping this gets resolved / attention quickly.

Our family enjoyed tent camping at Gros Ventre! Friendly and helpful staff. No major wildlife encounters other than hungry chipmunks. Pretty easy drive to Jenny Lake and Jackson (traffic to Jackson was heavy). Fun to ride scooters and walk around the large scenic loops in the evening. We will be back!

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
