About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

Reservation system worked great to book our trip. There is a paved bike path to Jenny Lake that is safe and a fun ride. The restrooms are flush and always kept clean and well stocked. The hosts at the park are very helpful.

Gros Ventre is a nice large campground away from the hustle and bustle. They have ranger programs in the evening. Got bit by mesquitos. Firewood way too expensive there & not supposed to bring your own out of state. There is a great bike path North & South but have to bike approximately 5 miles on kind of a main road. As 2 adults we did bike on it to North Grille but would not recommend for kids to do that. You can walk to the creek/river. We enjoyed ourselves at this campground.

Awesome campsite centrally located to Grand Teton and Jackson. Sites are nicely spaced. Camp hosts are a bit grumpy. I know it's a huge campsite to manage, but they seemed stressed and almost a bit annoyed you were there.

Disappointed in the soot surrounding the fire pits making sitting around the fire pit miserable, and getting soot all over our shoes. It's like they empty the fire pits by shoving the soot out surrounding the fire pits

We stayed in site D190 and the site was not level front to back. We stayed there for three nights. Never a problem with the 50 amp power. I used the trail that leads to the Snake River and saw a moose that was feeding on the bank. The area was dry while we were there and could use more trees for shade in the campground. The campground attendants were helpful and we would stay here again when back on the area. The garbage dumpster was on the way out on each loop. Plus the dump station was on the way out of the entire campground. The water fill was at the end of the dump station island so to fill your freshwater tank you have to wait for the RV’s at the two dump stations to finish. Not the best thought out to work smoothly. The people using the dump station are unable to fill their freshwater until they finish using the dump station because the freshwater fill is off to itself.

The maximum stay permitted at Gros Ventre Campground is 14 nights, and the maximum cumulative stay between all park campgrounds is 30 nights.

Guest check-in begins at noon. Check-out is 11 AM.

Generators are only permitted in loops A, B, C and along the East Corridor (EC).

We have one potable (drinking) water station and two rv dump stations across from the office cabin as you enter the campground.

Maximum guests allowed per site (not including group sites) is six. Tent sites allow for up to two tents and two vehicles. Not all sites are able to accomodate two tents. Guests will need to review site specific information for maximum number of tents permitted in individual sites. RV sites allow for one RV (tow included) only. (For reference, 2 motorcycles = 1 vehicle)

Quiet hours are 10pm - 8am. Generators cannot be used during these hours.
