About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

We enjoy staying at Gros Ventre campground. We try to stay two nights here and two nights at Colter Bay. This location is best for going to southern attractions in Grand Teton Park. It’s handy for dawn and dusk visits to Schwabacher Landing, cruising Gros Ventre Road for moose, driving quickly to Moose to explore the visitor center, attractions there such as the Murie Ranch and Menor’s Ferry and of course to enjoy pizza at Dornan’s Restaurant.
This particular site was very close to a restroom which we deem a plus. It accommodated out Marmot 10 by 10 tent. This year the restroom appeared to have been recently spruced up. It even seemed cleaner.

For the most part a nice stay, Has flush toilets. Nice place to see Moose right in the campground. Campground staff addressed issues, which can happen, quickly.

Nice campground. Bathrooms kept clean and tidy. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Recommend staying at this campground when in the area. Saw moose inside the campground.

As always a wonderful experience, and the clear cool Fall nights, and stars, are fabulous to observe. Another highlight always is the trip into Moose Junction to Dornan's for a beer and reasonably priced meal...The place is a national treasure...and we have been returning for at least 20 years!

Good experience cow and calf moose went between our RV and next RV. Wife was excited got a few pictures. Bull moose came in to the back of RV next morning went get camera to take pictures but got spooked by people closing in to take pictures. Stayed 10 days seen the teton national park and yellow stone park and other activities. Great time in western Wyoming.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
