About Gros Ventre Campground

Gros Ventre (pronounced ‘grow-vont’), means “big belly” in French, and the Gros Ventre Campground—surrounded by cottonwood trees and featuring stunning views of Blacktail Butte and the Teton Mountains—is truly magnificent! The campground’s location next to the Gros Ventre River offers some of the best opportunities in the park for wildlife sightings, as bison, moose, mule deer and a wide variety of birds are known to frequent the area. For avid anglers, the Gros Ventre River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Gros Ventre’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 279 individual campsites, 4 large group sites, and 39 electric-only sites, 10 of which are ADA-accessible. The campground is open from late-April to early-October.

Our site that we reserved weeks in advance was occupied by another vehicle. The vehicle left before the office opened the next day and nothing else was done. We were relocated to a site we found on our own for the night.

This campground ground can’t be beat for location and beauty. That being said, I wish they would take all the money they make from the expensive sites and do more with the bathrooms. If I’m going to pay $60 a night to park a vehicle a nicer bathroom would be a nice perk for us tent/vehicle campers.

We were just here overnight because we come into town for a concert at Snow King. The campsite was supposed to be big enough for a 23 foot trailer that means our tongue was like right on the edge of the road. The campsites are spaced reasonably far enough apart. If we were going to be staying there in any length of time, we probably would have ran into town and gotten a wasp trap. I don’t know about the rest of the campground, but they were thick at that campsite.
Hook up at all the campsites is 30 amp or 110 which for us is fine.
The bathroom was clean.

This is a big campground but only has one lop with electric. It was a great place to be close to look for moose. Very clean and not far off the highway.

The services at this campground are solid--flush bathrooms and water faucets. The trees were spectacularly golden in the fall and we had some animal sightings--moose and mule deer! Some of the sites are quite compact, so better for tents than campers. That said, a solid campground!

The maximum stay permitted at Gros Ventre Campground is 14 nights, and the maximum cumulative stay between all park campgrounds is 30 nights.

Guest check-in begins at noon. Check-out is 11 AM.

Generators are only permitted in loops A, B, C and along the East Corridor (EC).

We have one potable (drinking) water station and two rv dump stations across from the office cabin as you enter the campground.

Maximum guests allowed per site (not including group sites) is six. Tent sites allow for up to two tents and two vehicles. Not all sites are able to accomodate two tents. Guests will need to review site specific information for maximum number of tents permitted in individual sites. RV sites allow for one RV (tow included) only. (For reference, 2 motorcycles = 1 vehicle)

Quiet hours are 10pm - 8am. Generators cannot be used during these hours.
