Vedauwoo Campground (WY)

We enjoyed hiking and wandering through the rocks. Beautiful views. Small campground with many sites on the edge of the road.

This is a nice park the has no facilities or amenities, you should know that. Don't come here for a resort, you will get your feelings hurt. Laramie is about 15 min away and Cheyenne is just a bit further. The campground is clean and well maintained. Just off I80 and all the roads and sites are paved. Pulling a 34 ft fifth wheel we had no problems navigating the facility, just be careful. There are a few sites that will accommodate bigger travel trailers, look at the driveway length in the description.

Beautiful area but can be very windy

Beautiful location, albeit very windy at times. Close to I-80, but minimal road noise. Dry camping only. A combination of first come first serve and reservable sites. Water source could be improved upon. While there is a camp host, at least while we were there, there is little visibility from forest service personnel. As a result people often stay without paying, which is a shame given the beautiful location.

I made a reservation and I tried to move it one day earlier, which should have been free to do per my conversation with the agent at recreation.gov. However, then they said that I needed to cancel the reservation and make a new one because they couldn’t just change it by a day. They said that I just needed to call the site manager to get a refund. I called and left a message but they never called me back. Later I tried to switch sites for the same day, but that was also blocked. They again said that I would need to make a new reservation.

Had beautiful clear weather. No clouds, no light pollution, with a new moon. It was so dark that the milky way was so bright you didn't need flashlight to walk around at night.

Great location! The rocks were fun for our kids to play on and hike around. The bathroom situation was pretty rough. The smell and amount of flies was pretty awful. We stayed and visited other places in the area with vault toilets that did not have this problem despite being in similar area to vedauwoo.

Fabulous views, great rocks, campground was nice and quiet on a Thursday evening. We hiked the turtle rock trail. It was really nice!

We were only here for a one night stop over during a cross country trip, but this was one of our favorite stops. The rocks were amazing, the sunset was beautiful, and the stargazing was great!! The campground was easy to access off of I-80, and it was very quiet with respectful campers. This is a dry campground (no electric, water, or sewer), but the restrooms were clean and the toilets are pumped regularly. Definitely worth a stop!!
