About Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch

Availability will go live on Recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling basis for RV sites, Tent sites, and Camper Cabins.   Located in the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway, directly between Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks and just minutes from both, Headwaters Campground offers the perfect basecamp for exploration. Situated in a spectacular wooded setting with rolling hills and Teton mountain views, this campground is the perfect place to unwind and unplug, as there is limited cellular or internet service. Commune with nature and spot bear, moose, mule deer, and more as you stroll along nearby Polecat Creek. For avid anglers, the Snake River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Headwater’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.    The campground offers 34 tent sites, 97 full-hookup and pull-through RV sites, and 40 Camper Cabins, and is open from June to October. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and book early.

The campground was full when were there, but the grounds did not seem over crowded and everything stayed clean including the bathrooms. Sheffields Restaurant located within the campground was excellent. Our only issue was the hot water in the women's bathroom. Two days in a row, one of the four showers was out of order and there was no hot water.

The shower was an inconvenience, but I would give this campground a high rating.

A bit pricey but make sure you use your pass #. Gives you a bit of a discount. Great location with hookups between GTNP and Yellowstone. Very convenient and a nice lodge too.

The roads in the campground really need repair. There are many, large potholes. The trees along the camp road and in the site really need to be trimmed. As slow and careful as I navigated the camp roads, I still took out a roof downspout on my camper.
Headwaters is a good second choice to camping in Yellowstone or Teton parks. It is about an hour to either. There is a gas station at the lodge just outside the camp. The lodge store does not have much. The general store at Colter Bay is nearby and has fresh veggies and meats at reasonable prices.

Great base camp campground for doing Yellowstone national park and Grand Teton. With a gas station, showers, laundry, and assorted food options, you could stay here for multiple days comfortably. The campground site was fine; the parking spot a little awkward to get into. All other aspects were fine.

Flagg Ranch is the perfect spot to explore the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone and the cabins are well kempt.
Sadly, the laundry room along with the machines are atrocious! The bathrooms were kept well except for one day. That was gross.

Flagg Ranch Campground came to our rescue after our truck broke down in Yellowstone NP. They gave us and emergency rv site for 1 nite which stretched to 4 additional nites before our truck was fixed. The young men working the park office were fantastic and helped greatly in a stressful situation.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
