Summer Update: Enhancing our campground for youOur campground is getting an upgrade! A significant, multi-year construction project to enhance utility infrastructure will be occurring within the campground this summer. To minimize disruption to the campground experience, noise creating construction activities will be limited to 9am to 6pm. Please note that our laundry facilities will also have reduced availability during this project. We appreciate your patience as we improve your experience for seasons to come and cannot wait to welcome you this summer!

About Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch

Availability will go live on Recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling basis for RV sites, Tent sites, and Camper Cabins.   Located in the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway, directly between Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks and just minutes from both, Headwaters Campground offers the perfect basecamp for exploration. Situated in a spectacular wooded setting with rolling hills and Teton mountain views, this campground is the perfect place to unwind and unplug, as there is limited cellular or internet service. Commune with nature and spot bear, moose, mule deer, and more as you stroll along nearby Polecat Creek. For avid anglers, the Snake River offers plentiful cutthroat trout, brook trout, and whitefish. While none of Headwater’s campsites are on the river, all are within walking distance.    The campground offers 34 tent sites, 97 full-hookup and pull-through RV sites, and 40 Camper Cabins, and is open from June to October. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and book early.

What Guests Are Saying

Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch is a well-maintained facility conveniently located between Yellowstone and Grand Teton, making it an ideal base for exploring both parks. Visitors appreciated the clean amenities, friendly staff, and additional features like a gas station, store, and free showers. However, some campers noted high prices at the store and close proximity of sites, which could lead to noise and lack of privacy. Overall, many expressed a desire to return due to the campground's positive aspects.

We like the location, full hookups, and helpful staff. Dusty or muddy roads could be improved in campground. Better ventilation in shower houses would improve user experience and reduce maintenance.

I did not have a reservation and they were able to accomadate me with a tenting spot. However, because I am a light sleeper, the #114 campsite was unsatisfactory due to its location within 100ft of a noisy Rt 191. The campgrounds were very clean and the staff was friendly. I ended up using their showering and laundry facilties, thanked the staff for the service and found a dispersed camping site, Grassy Lake road (NPS.GOV) campsite, within a mile of the Flagg ranch campground. I slept well at the confluence of Pole cat creek and the Snake river.

Spent two nights at the Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch. Enjoyed walks around the campground and two evening meals at the Sheffield's restaurant in the lodge. Our main objective was relaxation, so we did not take any extended hikes or other activities. Restrooms were clean and the campground was pleasant.

Glamping at its finest! Our campsite was walking distance to the bathrooms, the general store, and the BAR... that was an unexpected treat as a first-timer here! I love the Tetons so much, and camping at Flagg Ranch made it so convenient and comfortable. I would absolutely camp here again!

The campground sites were nicely spaced and we appreciated that the area was rustic and not paved everywhere. On site services like fuel and a few grocery items was appreciated for our adventuress both into the Tetons and Yellowstone as we used Headwaters as a base for both National Parks. Unfortunately there was a camper a few sites down from us who chose to pull out a large chainsaw at 9pm and proceeded to cut down a dead tree for firewood right in the campground! UGH . Apparently there are not onsite camp hosts or anyone watching out for this "illegal" behavior .. It is in the rules and regulations of this park that this is unlawful behavior. I called 911 and reported this and the incident was forwarded to dispatch. Sad .. the offensive campers were from Texas.. guess they think this kind of behavior was ok. They were not happy that I reported them . They were not in that site a day or 2 later . Otherwise the campground had nice hiking trails where we could walk to the nearby river for a lovely couple of evenings. The shower house was kept clean. The price per night certainly was high.. but I guess thats the way things are for Yellowstone camping these days

I was in site 523 for 8 days. It had broken tree cover (partially obscured Starlink) and I had 2 Bars (5g) on Verizon. The 30A electrical Outlet worked fine. The Dump tube on the site is like 18" above the ground, which put it above the bottom of my black tank rendering it unusable without making a big mess. There is no separate Dump on site at Flagg Ranch, but they are the same company as Colter Bay Campground, which does have a dump you can use for free. It was a pretty campground, but the sites are fairly close together. Most folks make camp fires, which made my RV smell like smoke if I had a window open in the evening. The gas station has a few groceries, but you will need to drive to Colter Bay if you want a full grocery store. There is an on site restaurant which was above average.
Great access to both Yellowstone and Teton, although you will be driving a fair bit to either one.

We really enjoyed eating at the Headwaters restaurant. We were waited on by Radesh(?) from Romania for the second year in a row. He’s very friendly and good at his job.

    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
