Signal Mountain Campground

We stayed in site 38, which was smaller than expected, but backed up to the amphitheater and lakeside trails, which were both awesome features. The campground is busy, but well-appointed and clean. Most importantly, the location of it makes access to GTNP’s many trails and activities a breeze. This particular campground looked like it was less busy than the others in the park as well. For me, this made it the best of the the options.

(#64) Comfortable basic campsite. Clean campground and toilets. Asphalt car pad was in dire need of repair, as were most of the car parking pads around the campsite. It made it difficult to level our camper. Such a travesty to have such a poorly maintained essential component of a good campsite, especially in a premier national park campground charging such high rates. Quite a few campers also tried to park 3 vehicles in small parking pads, often protruding into the road. There didn't seem to be any enforcement of parking being limited to 2 vehicles.

This campground cost 2x-3x other comparable campgrounds. I don’t understand why the national park service would allow a private concessioner to profit so much off a public amenity. The mountain views across the lake were nice. Our site was pretty but small. Restrooms, picnic tables and other amenities were no better than other campgrounds (for the price I was expecting a butler to start my fire.) Trash cans were too full to use. Showers were expensive and the system to pay for them was convoluted.

You share a parking lot with campers from 15 and 17. The campsites start at the parking lot and extend back toward the lake (17, then 16, then 15). The only thing I would do different next time is reserve #15 because that spot is the furtherest back with a better view of the lake and more privacy.

Campsites needed attention. Weeds etc growing throughout the site even up to fire pit causing fire hazard. Trails to bathrooms not safe due to lack of maintenance. Thought we had a site with water and electricity only to find out that the ten dollar water fee was for offsite usage at the dump station. No water anywhere near the site.

Wooded area with lots of birds. Campers were quiet and bathrooms were clean. We actually saw two woodland pinedrop flowers in our campground, which are apparently endangered in several states. We had a big male elk in the campground in the morning, which was interesting. Camp sites are close together, but with the pine trees you can have some sense of distance.

Awesome campsite! Has great views of Mount Moran and Jackson Lake. Spotty reception but there is wifi at the campstore! Site is a perfect distance from the road for pleasant camping. Signal mountain lodge has a solid restaurant scene if you don't want to make your own food. The campstore was well equipped and the showers/laundry were open fairly late. Overall a great camping experience!
