About Island Park Campground

Island Park Campground is located in pine and spruce forest on West Tensleep Creek near West Tensleep Lake and the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Located 21 mi northeast of Ten Sleep, Wyoming, and 55 east of Worland, Wyoming, on US Hwy 16 this campground is nestled in the Bighorn National Forest offering a wide variety of activities including, hiking, fishing, scenic driving and a number of historic sites. We didn't have an on site host so couldn't buy firewood, however could drive about 3 mi to another campground to get it. Our campsite was clean and so were the restrooms. We like to stay here because we always get to see wildlife close by, Moose, Elk, Deer, Coyote and an abundance of birds.

Camp host Les was courteous and helpful.
I was pleased to find how clean he keeps the camp, including the toilets.
He even waxes the picnic tables!
Given that he manages three camps in this way, he certainly deserves a hefty raise of salary.

Getting There

Drive 21 mi northeast of Ten Sleep, Wyoming, on US Highway 16; then go 3 mi north on FSR 27. From Buffalo, Wyoming, travel west 42 mi on US Hwy 16 to FSR 27 (at Deer Haven Lodge), turn right onto FSR 27 and go 3 mi north to campground.

Island Park Campground is accessible via US Highway 16, located approximately 21 miles southwest from Ten Sleep and 42 miles east from Buffalo.

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
