Mammoth Campground (Yellowstone)

The campground was open despite the shutdown. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We really appreciate that, despite the difficult circumstances, the employees are doing their best to show visitors this uniquely beautiful park.

Unfortunately, on two occasions, other people were parked in our reserved campsite with their vehicles. Once, the rangers asked the people who were parked in the wrong place to leave, and once we had to ask the other people to leave the site, which led to a 15-minute discussion. Unfortunately, only one toilet facility was open, which is a bit tight with around 40 campsites, and there was no permanently installed washing-up station.

The atmosphere was very peaceful, the campsite was very clean, and the other campers were also very friendly.

Basic sites, great environment, had elk walk through in the morning. Happy to have flushing toilets and showers available at the mammoth lodge. Great place to stay when visiting Yellowstone.

It was our first time to this campground. We thought the whole camp ground was clean. The hosts worked hard to help campers and were the right amount of friendly without intruding into our time at the camp. It is located in a great spot to reach the center easily without having to use our vehicle. We loved the wildlife that walked through the camp. We would stay at this camp again.

Nice campground, we were in site 12, no problem getting into the site with our 27' fifth wheel and truck. Pretty good privacy, short walk to the flush toilets.

Although somewhat open, the campsite is reasonably private for the setting with a good tent site (although in full sun); the vehicle area is a more shaded.

Nice and clean campground, there was fresh water close to our RV spot.

Normally this is a packed campground but for the middle of November there were very few people there. All services are still available at this time of year plus the elk are only occasional visitors. During my stay, they appeared most nights but typically you only hear them and not see them. Not sure if it was the time of the year or something else, I have stayed at this campground a few times but I don't recall the winds being so strong - it could have just been the weather during my visit, which was in the 50s during the days - not typical temperatures for November. For the time of year (only the road from Gardiner to Cooke City is open), this is the best (aka cheapest) lodging available, provided you can deal with the temperatures at night. The only negatives I can think of, the main restroom is too warm for my liking and one of the park workers enjoys his diesel truck and makes a great deal of noise while going up the hill.

Stunning views, incredible wildlife, fantastic location. Facilities were basic but clean. Proactive security team keeping us safe. Spaces were large, flat and easy to manoeuvre into in a long vehicle.
