Description of our campsite was not accurate, stated that the site got afternoon shade, which it did not. Site had no shade whatsoever at any time of day (nor would it at any other time of year) and it was over 100 degrees with unrelenting sun for my entire stay. I would have chosen a different site had I known (almost all others had some shade), but by the time of arrival, all other sites were booked so it could not be changed. I would advise calling to book your reservation and speaking to someone who knows the sites personally, not just the posted description. Otherwise, the campground overall was fine.

This campground is mostly scrub brush but I thought it was great! I woke to the sound of elk calling, and fell asleep to the sound of coyotes howling. A red fox ran right through my campsite. It is exposed, so if there is big wind, make sure everything is staked down. I did have service (ATT) if that is important. I didn’t have reliable, or any service anywhere else in the park. It’s a great place to be if you want to visit Lamar Valley early.

The area surrounding the campground was beautiful, campground was close to a store, food, ice and visitor center. The campground itself was okay in the evening, but many of the sites have no shade at all. The hot sun shines directly on the picnic tables and for our site #49 there was no shade at all. We put our tent in the trees to try to get some shade. It was so hot in the daytime we couldn’t wait for the sun to go down. A big plus for the campsite was the bathrooms had flushable toilets and running water with mirrors. The bathrooms had plenty of toilet paper and they were fairly clean. Overall had a good experience in the mammoth area. We have a 2 year old son that gets car sick and the drive from the entrance of the park to mammoth campground is super windy road that he was not very happy about. We drive to Yellowstone Hot Springs which was nice and Gardiner is not far either for food and ice. Overall, good experience minus the hot days in the campground.

Very nice campground facilities and very helpful rangers. Help me plan my whole day in Mammoth side of the park. The campsite had little shade cover.

What a beautiful campground! Every site is spread out and the bathrooms were clean and included, flush toilets, and running sinks. Easy access to the northern part of Yellowstone.

Great campsite! The sites were close but definitely had enough breathing room for the kids to play and have privacy. Bathrooms were always very clean and easily accessible. The views were spectacular and it was so close to Mammoth hot springs and the other attractions and amenities.

Policies & Rules
General
- Mammoth Campground is managed by the park. If you are looking for campgrounds managed by Yellowstone National Park Lodges (Fishing Bridge RV Park, Bridge Bay, Canyon, Madison, and Grant Village campgrounds), please visit the Yellowstone National Park Lodges Camping website.
- RV or Camper Unit Delivery Prohibited. The delivery or pick-up of out-of-park RVs or other camper unit rentals is prohibited.
- Notify the Campground of Late Arrivals. To notify campground of late arrival or cancellation please call 307-344-2289
- Parking. All wheeled vehicles including trailers and motorcycles must be parked on parking pads or established roadways, so as not to block or restrict traffic in campgrounds.
- Camping Occupancy Limits. Maximum occupancy is six people per site. Camp only in designated sites. Camping is limited to 14 days from July 1 through Labor Day and to 30 days the rest of the year parkwide. The 44 day camping limit includes both concession- and park-operated campgrounds.
- Wildlife/Bear Regulations. ~Keep all food and related items - beverages, cooking utensils, stoves, pet food and, empty or full, food and beverage containers such as coolers, ice chests, and water jugs - locked inside your vehicle or stored in a food storage box, unless in immediate use. Bear resistant food containers must be kept in a vehicle, in a hard-sided camping unit, or in a food storage box. ~All trash and garbage must be disposed of in the provided bear-proof trash cans. Do not leave food related trash or garbage unattended. ~Washing dishes or clothing at campground hydrants or spigots is prohibited. Carry all dishwater/wastewater to the restroom toilet for disposal.
- Campfires and Firewood. Wood and charcoal fires are permitted. Campfires are permitted only in established fire grates. Fires must be attended at all times. Only dead, down, and detached wood may be gathered. Wood should not extend outside the fire grate perimeter. Do not break limbs off of standing trees, living or dead. Drown campfires thoroughly with water to make sure they are completely out. NOTE: Wood and charcoal fires may be subject to special restrictions due to fire danger. Restrictions will be listed on campground information boards and on the park's Current Conditions page. Propane grills and stoves are not usually affected by fire restrictions.
- Quiet hours are strictly enforced. No loud audio devices or other noise disturbances will be allowed during this time. Generators are prohibited between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Generators must be turned off durng the day when campsite is not occupied by site renter.
- Stay on Boardwalks and Trails. All travel in thermal areas is restricted to NPS designated trails and boardwalks.
- Fishing. To fish within the park, people 16 years of age and older are required to purchase and carry on their person a Yellowstone National Park Fishing Permit (you may purchase in advance). To learn more about fishing regulations, visit the park's Catch a Fish web page.
- 30 ft RV limit. From November through April.
