Love this primitive campground! Clean, quiet and absolutely beautiful location! It’s wonderful to not hear any traffic! Most of the time we only heard birds singing. We need more of this type of campground in National Parks and Monuments for those of us not into big RVing.

Very beautiful spot with a fine hike into the canyon. A favourite! All sites were booked but one was never occupied, so it was unfortunate for the people who drove in hoping for a place to stay. Perhaps there should be a time limit for holding the reservation.

Site #3 at Alamo Canyon Primitive is a stellar spot. We were here in late March, and the weather was phenomenal. The ground is relatively hard, which makes staking a tent difficult, but we got by. The grill and picnic table were in good condition, and the toilet was clean. Very few people make their way to this campsite/trailhead, so we only saw our neighbors, a couple hikers, and one park ranger emptying the trash bins. Definitely would stay here again!

Beware o traveler, the intersection of Alamo wash rd with the N/S highway is dangerous. No signage alerts drivers driving north or south past the alamo wash intersection. Traffic is often speeding. Leaving from Alamo wash rd the view is partially obstructed from oncoming traffic.

There is no road sign along the highway for the Alamo Canyon Road
- Alamo Canyon Road is located at milepost 65.5 on the east side of AZ State Route 85, on the north side of the concrete bridge that crosses Alamo Wash. Alamo Canyon Campground is located at the end of the Alamo Canyon Road. The road is a three-mile graded dirt road suitable for most cars.
- From the North (Phoenix): take I-10 East to AZ SR 85 south. Or, take I-10 east to AZ SR 347 south, to AZ 238 west, to AZ SR 85 south.
- From the East (Tucson): take AZ SR 86 to Why, then turn left on AZ SR 85, heading south.
- From the West (Yuma/California): follow I-8 to Gila Bend or I-10 to Buckeye, to AZ SR 85 south.
- From the South (Sonoyta, Mexico): travel north towards Lukeville, AZ on Mexico Rt. 2. Once across the border into the United States, continue north onto AZ SR 85.
Alamo Canyon Primitive Campground is accessible via AZ State Route 85, which is located approximately 3 miles from the campground at milepost 65.5. Major access roads include I-10 and I-8, which connect to AZ SR 85 for travelers from various directions.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
