This campsite is absolutely beautiful! There’s a charcoal grill and picnic tables, ample space for 2 trucks to park and a wide site for multiple tent. The sunsets at this site can’t be beat. It gets cold in January at night and windy/cold in the early morning, otherwise the sun feels good once it hits around 8am. Check out Ajo, AZ nearby for food and drinks, thrifting, and artist vendors.

Great, primitive campground tucked away from the main road. Very quiet and peaceful with only 4 camp spots available. Each spot has a picnic table and a grill and there is a pit toilet nearby. There a nice hike right out of the campground that goes back to an old homestead.

Bathrooms and campgrounds were clean.
The short Alamo canyon trail leading from the campground is a nice jaunt after setting camp.
The trail extends beyond its official end, where it appears to be a migrant use trail replete with flagging tape. 🫤

Beautiful and peaceful, and the sites are right on Alamo Canyon Trail! The vault toilets are extremely convenient and the whole are is tidy. There's not much cell service or internet - take that as you will.
Oh, and please cover your side view mirrors when away, so the handsome cardinal doesnt hurt himself.

There is no road sign along the highway for the Alamo Canyon Road
- Alamo Canyon Road is located at milepost 65.5 on the east side of AZ State Route 85, on the north side of the concrete bridge that crosses Alamo Wash. Alamo Canyon Campground is located at the end of the Alamo Canyon Road. The road is a three-mile graded dirt road suitable for most cars.
- From the North (Phoenix): take I-10 East to AZ SR 85 south. Or, take I-10 east to AZ SR 347 south, to AZ 238 west, to AZ SR 85 south.
- From the East (Tucson): take AZ SR 86 to Why, then turn left on AZ SR 85, heading south.
- From the West (Yuma/California): follow I-8 to Gila Bend or I-10 to Buckeye, to AZ SR 85 south.
- From the South (Sonoyta, Mexico): travel north towards Lukeville, AZ on Mexico Rt. 2. Once across the border into the United States, continue north onto AZ SR 85.
Alamo Canyon Primitive Campground is accessible via AZ State Route 85, which is located approximately 3 miles from the campground at milepost 65.5. Major access roads include I-10 and I-8, which connect to AZ SR 85 for travelers from various directions.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
