We had a great stay here. The cabin was well-equipped with all of our basic essentials and had a great outdoor space to relax in and explore. Close drive to a few trailheads as well.

Beautiful location. Great comfortable house with fabulous views. Well equipped kitchen. Lovely pond on property is a nice restful place for all creatures. Very close to great hiking at Cochise Stronghold campground. Less than an hour drive to the Wilcox area to view the migratory Sandhill Cranes.
We did find one of the toilets out of service. Fortunately the house has two. The cleaning tools were in bad shape, so we threw them out and got some new stuff. Hope the next guests enjoyed the freshly mopped floors! It gets dusty fast.

The ranch house is wonderful and has all the comforts of home. It was great for me & my wife and would work for a big family or 2 couples. The plumbing issue was not a problem for us but there were signs that work was being done in that area. Thanks to the USFS for opening these properties up to rent in such beautiful locations.

Lets start with the bad news:
We had zero notice that the toilet in the master site was out of service. So, we had six people using the back one that was very slow to refill and a pain to re-flush. A notice of this would have been very appreciated, and I would have brought the RV.!
And, thanks to the folks in front of us, we found a very dirty cabin, with no apparent cleanup being done other than taking the trash bag. They did not even sweep the kitchen!
They should be banned from renting anything again!
We swept, mopped, and cleaned every dish in the house, and pared the multiple worthless utensils down to a manageable level, but we put all the worthless stuff in the bottom drawer in case somebody wants to outfit their new camper!
That all said:
The location is amazing, the bird life is wonderful, and the peace and quite was good. Had a great hike up the Stronghold.
Kind of of cool watching four pairs of Cardinals bouncing around the hackberry trees and courting each other! Couse deer coming in to drink at the pond, and the Mearns quail going crazy in the morning.
I will be back!

Policies & Rules
General
- Pets are NOT permitted inside or outside the cabin. Unfortunately, due to a history of pet owners inadequately cleaning up after their pets, pets are no longer allowed. Forest Service staff have limited time to complete weekly cabin cleaning. Cleaning service is not cost effective due to the rural location of the cabins. Eliminating the need to vacuum pet hair, neutralize odors, and pick up poop frees up staff time to cleaning cabin amenities and address repair needs.
- Access to the house is through a locked gate; the gate has a combination lock, and the house key is located in a lock box on the kitchen door. The combinations for the gate and the lock box are provided once a reservation is made.
- A cabin manual is located inside the cabin to answer specific questions during your stay as well as provide you with information on recreation opportunities in the area.
- Cleaning service is NOT provided. Before leaving, renters are expected to clean the cabin; this includes washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down countertops, cleaning bathrooms & showers, and removing ALL trash.
- Guests MUST provide some of their own supplies including: food, sleeping bags, linens, pillows, towels, dish soap, matches, a first aid kit, toilet paper and garbage bags.
- Please do NOT flush anything but toilet paper to prevent clogs or damage to the septic system.
- Keep the building and grounds clean to deter squirrel, mice, rats, bears, and other wildlife from the area.
- Cell phone coverage is usually available in the general area, but may be unreliable in the cabin.
- Off-Highway vehicle users should be aware that East Cochise Stronghold has only one road for vehicles. Due to heavy traffic by passenger cars, trucks, RVs, and trailers, it is not recommended for off-road vehicle use.
- The house is located in a desert environment; please be aware that scorpions, snakes and other insects may be present at any time.
- The access road leading into the cabin is passable by passenger car, but high clearance vehicles are recommended.
- The cabin is a no-smoking facility.
- Reservation dates subject to weather conditions.
- This cabin does not honor Golden Passport Discounts.
- A helispot is located at the far west end of the pasture; emergency crews may periodically use this site for emergency rescue operations.
