About Tusayan - Montane

COMMERCIAL TOUR GROUPS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT TUSAYAN-MONTANE CAMPGROUNDCommercial operators MUST obtain a special use permit to operate on National Forest System lands, including Tusayan-Montane Campground. Due to high public demand, Kaibab National Forest will not be issuing any special use permits for Tusayan-Montane Campground until further notice. Therefore, no commercial tour groups are allowed at Tusayan-Montane Campground. All violators will be removed from the campground immediately and given a fine for violating the Code of Federal Regulations. Perhaps the biggest draw to Tusayan-Montane Campground in northern Arizona is its proximity to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Located just 4 mi south of the park entrance in beautiful Kaibab National Forest, Tusayan-Montane is a quiet, peaceful campground that generally has open camping sites. A nature trail weaves its way through the pine forest, and many more hiking opportunities are within a short drive. The facility can accommodate individual and family visitors, as well as large groups up to 75 people.

Quiet and peaceful camp sites. Easy to access drinking water and very close to the Grand Canyon National Park. The 3 mi loop around the camp ground was an easy, low elevation change trail that was helpful getting used to the elevation and weather of the area before doing other hikes.

As a standalone campground this place is great, where things fall apart is trying to use it as a base camp for the Grand Canyon because there’s traffic jams at the national park entrance gate. The forest is open, but because the sites are spaced so far apart, they still feel private. Vault toilets were clean. Only one source of potable water at the entrance so it’s necessary to bring large jugs to avoid multiple trips. No recycling.

We had an amazing time staying at TenX! We stayed at S11 in Squirrel Loop. The site was very easy to find & it's right across from the bathroom with just enough distance for passerbys to not be a bother. Very large site with a paved parking spot, a stand-alone campsite grill, picnic table & a fire pit with a grill attachment. The Campground is close enough to everything you want to see. They sell firewood in town. I think Flagstaff was an hour to an hour twenty minutes away but if you need anything extra or last minute then that's that place to go! The price was just right at the Campground & they even have self serve if you didn't make a reservation. We was unsure if we would have trouble finding one when we planned our trip so we went ahead and reserved but it wasn't packed when we was there, I'm sure the time of year you go will make the difference. Overall I would highly recommend TenX & I would definitely camp there again!

Very low-key campsite for Grand Canyon visitors. Neighbors were noisy but that is expected. Bathroom was clean (yes it is not a flush toilet but it is also a very cheap campground so this is expected.) Privacy on the campground was nice. Did not experience any trouble during the two nights we were there. Recommend for Grand Canyon visitors for sure!

I love everything about this rustic campground except for the lack of cell phone reception. If you have t-mobile then you are out of luck. This makes it hard to stay in touch with elderly family and children who may have emergency needs.

Spacious campground near the Grand Canyon. There were plenty of trees for shade, a fire pit, plenty of wood to gather, clean vault toilets, & water located at group sites. Elk were prevalent as well, & we had 4 bed down for the night about 40 ft from our tent!

Quiet convient to get to GC without taking the crowd of people allong with you when you are on the way back to your overnight stay. 😉Very friendly welcome by the groundkeeper. A suggestion for everyone who likes a little bit of solitude at the end of a hiking day.
