About Tusayan - Montane

COMMERCIAL TOUR GROUPS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT TUSAYAN-MONTANE CAMPGROUNDCommercial operators MUST obtain a special use permit to operate on National Forest System lands, including Tusayan-Montane Campground. Due to high public demand, Kaibab National Forest will not be issuing any special use permits for Tusayan-Montane Campground until further notice. Therefore, no commercial tour groups are allowed at Tusayan-Montane Campground. All violators will be removed from the campground immediately and given a fine for violating the Code of Federal Regulations. Perhaps the biggest draw to Tusayan-Montane Campground in northern Arizona is its proximity to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Located just 4 miles south of the park entrance in beautiful Kaibab National Forest, Tusayan-Montane is a quiet, peaceful campground that generally has open camping sites. A nature trail weaves its way through the pine forest, and many more hiking opportunities are within a short drive. The facility can accommodate individual and family visitors, as well as large groups up to 75 people.

We stayed here because camping inside the Grand Canyon is closed at the moment due to COVID-19. It is definitely old school- no showers, sinks at the bathrooms, or place to wash dishes. They do have a few water spouts so I recommenced bringing a tub to wash dishes, something to gather water in, hand soap, etc. when reserving, make sure you check the parking situation. Some sites you just pull over next to it, some have a spot to back into, and some have a little horse shoe parking. Depending on your vehicle and rent situation, this is important. In addition, this time of year we weren’t allowed to have camp fires. Luckily we had a small Coleman grill to cook on, but I didn’t think about not being able to have fires or charcoal grills. Overall, we had a good experience, but these few pointers would have been nice to know!

This was our first time here and it was close to the Grand Canyon. The staff was amazing!. Campsites were kept clean. Bathrooms were clean compared to other campsites. Campsites were spaced out and were not close which was great. Did trail which was short, though did get to see some beautiful elk along the way. My son loved it, especially in the morning when we woke up to elk roaming around the campsite. He was so amazed and just sat in the tent watching the elk roam around the campsite.

Peaceful and clean overall. A lot of later arrivals at night, probably due to vicinity to Grand Canyon. Overall quiet and well spaced campsitesites. Lots of elk to watch during our visit here. Restrooms were clean first two days, but last morning lots flies and not as clean.

  • COMMERCIAL TOUR GROUPS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT TEN-X CAMPGROUND Commercial operators MUST obtain a special use permit to operate on National Forest System lands, including Ten-X Campground. Due to high public demand, Kaibab National Forest will not be issuing any special use permits for Ten-X Camground until further notice. Therefore, no commercial tour groups are allowed at Ten-X Campground. All violators will be removed from the campground immediately and given a fine for violating the Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Single campsites accommodate a maximum of 8 people and 1 vehicle. Double campsites accommodate a maximum of 14 people and 2 vehicles. Groups that arrive with more people than allowed will be asked to move and will be charged for an additional site. Additional vehicles may be accommodated depending on the site. Each additional vehicle is subject to a $5/night fee
  • No utility hookups
  • Generators are allowed at Ten-X Campground. Generators can only be operated from 6am to 9pm.
  • Limit of 15 vehicles per group site
  • Due to limited water supply, RVs are not allowed to fill up at the campground
  • No dumping of waste or grey water inside the campground; there is a dump station and water fill inside Grand Canyon National Park
  • No shower or laundry facilities; these services are available inside Grand Canyon National Park
  • Pull-through sites can accommodate up to a 35-ft. RV
  • No use of off-highway vehicles inside this facility
