About North Rim Campground (AZ)

The North Rim Campground is located on the remote and rustic North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in northern Arizona, approximately 210 mi (210 mi) from Grand Canyon Village, AZ on the South Rim. It is nestled in a thick ponderosa and aspen forest just on the canyon's edge at an elevation of 8.2 ft. This facility is perfect for tent camping and smaller RVs. Due to its heavily forested location, large and/or high-profile RVs cannot be accommodated.  The maximum length in each site description is the combined length of both the RV/trailer and tow vehicle. Many sites are not level and have obstacles such as tight curves and narrow passages through trees.  Some sites may not accommodate trailer pop-outs or awnings.   The maximum vehicle length permitted on the Cape Royal Scenic Road, Widforss Trailhead, and North Kiabab Trailhead is 22 ft; plan accordingly if renting an RV if you wish to explore these other areas of the park.

What Guests Are Saying

The North Rim Campground is highly praised for its spacious and well-maintained sites, beautiful natural surroundings, and proximity to the Grand Canyon views. Campers appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities, and the availability of a general store with essential supplies. Although there were some issues with water access and restroom cleanliness during a recent fire evacuation, the overall experience remains positive, with many expressing a desire to return in the future.

loved the area but no food or groceries available for 40 minutes from the campground and the one store that has very limited supplies closed early.

Welcome to life after the Dragon Bravo Fire. During our camp out in the tent-only area, we marveled at the mostly intact forest around the campground. The views and canyon still astounds, but with a fraction of the visitors. The lost lodge is devastating to see, but wildlife remains abundant.

The campground host was super friendly, and the general store folks are helpful. They still have food, drinks and ice there. Portable toilets are kept clean, but no running water or sewer due to the wildfire. Bring plenty of food and water. Head to Cape Royal and the southern end of Walhalla Plateau for more intact forests and transcendent views. Be patient and kind during your visit.

Great site. Campground was very underpopulated. (Because of the fire? Summer heat? The lack of running water?) But for that reason was super quiet. No complaints.

I am so glad the North Rim Campground is open again. The surprise is that no one is out there! In the tent only loop there was 1 other camper, and in the main campground maybe 10 sites full only.
Services and trails are closed but the Campground Store is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
I am so happy the campground did not burn. I've been going out there for decades.
Sadly the top of the North Kaibab trail is burnt completely. That is cause for concern for those hiking Rim to Rim and exiting on the North Kaibab. What was once a beautiful mature Spruce Fir forest is no bare and dusty. It is a dangerous ascent Within the first five weeks of the trail being open 3 people have died of heat related issues at the top of the North Kaibab. My own small day hike down and up the trail confirmed it is no longer the perfect exit to Rim to Rom. Tremendous thanks to the crews cutting burnt timber to make this trail available. I "accidentally" ended up on the Widfross Trail one day and discovered the heavy cIf you think I am an alarmist then the record is clearing work on the beginning of that trail. It won't be open this season at all as the road in is destroyed.
The nights at the tent only Campground is serene as always. I miss the Great Horned Owl that has been there for years.

Thencampground was awesome. Big trees, big views. Very clean. The fire had.much of the park shut down like trails and water at the stations (no water at the park when we were there) but suspect that will.come back online as the park gets back on its feet.

We got to our site late after the information center had closed but our site had our reservation clearly marked and was great. The area is breathtaking and when we stayed it wasn’t crowded at all, it was a Monday but it made it nice. It was a little unfortunate that the whole visitor center was closed due to the fire last year. It was still beautiful but just be aware if you are planning a trip to the North Rim you won’t get the full experience, but nature has a mind of its own and natural disasters unfortunately happen in nature.

I registered for a camp site on line as asked by the staff. The confirmation on the site did not accept my registration I then tried again and the spot I wanted was filled. Later on i left the campground and then got a confirmation about the site I paid for. Since I had already left I canceled my site and was only refunded 35$ on the site for 90$ this campground had nothing to offer and charged 45$ a night. For campers that were willing to stay there with no amenities and trying to support the north rim was out of line. Very sad on all accounts.
