Bonita Canyon Campground

This is an amazing campground! Clean, easy access to trails and visitor's center. The camp hosts and visitor's center staff were very informative and friendly, making the trip so wonderful! Thank you!

Great campground with easy access to the canyon and visitor’s center. Close proximity to the trading post as well. Very quiet with many empty sites this time of year.

It was a very nice small intimate campground . Everyone seemed to make an effort maintain the peace and quiet of the camping experience except the person across the street from me. Despite setting up portable solar panels all day, he was compelled to run a generator for several hours at twilight and into the night , thus ruining the serenity of the campground. Generators should be banned from this campground. It’s outrageous that one thoughtless person can ruin the experience of the group. There are plenty of other places someone like this can go camp to run his generator all day and night. I will not be returning to this campground, nor would I recommend it to others if they are seeking a serene environment.

Chiricahua National Monument is beautiful and is a wonderful oasis here in Southern Arizona. The campground was clean and well-maintained.

Unfortunately, we had a disturbing encounter with Delores, one of the Campground Hosts when we stayed there October 29-30, 2023. We had reserved a campsite for two nights via Recreation.gov.

A Campground Host, Delores, stopped by our site and told us that she had contacted “law enforcement” because we were stealing electricity. She said that we would probably be arrested and taken to jail in Tucson (about 120 miles away). She also said that our account would be flagged and we would be prevented from reserving sites in National Park Service locations in the future.

I am not making this up.

Delores was very rude and threatening to us. In the end, of course nobody from “law enforcement” showed up and our account has not been blocked. But, we left the next morning anyway because we just did not feel welcome.

We have camped at hundreds of locations over the years and never encountered anything like this. Very disappointing.

It was a beautiful campground! The campground host was so nice and knowledgeable about the area.
It was quiet. It was sooo quiet at night you could hear absolutely everything. Your neighbor rolling over on the air mattress, and other night time noises. It was kind of awkward being early risers and tippy toeing around making coffee and whispering to each other.
