What Guests Are Saying
The CCC Portal Cabin is a charming and clean two-bedroom stone cabin located in a beautiful setting within the Chiricahua Mountains, ideal for nature lovers and hikers. Guests appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and the cozy ambiance provided by the wood stove. However, some noted the lack of living room furniture and the non-operational grill, along with minor electrical issues, which could enhance the overall experience.

Cabin nice and clean. Bbq was out of service. Be aware there is no couch or chairs other than 4 dining table chairs. There were two rvs parked close by the cabin. Great location, pretty. Busy road during daylight hours.

Very clean and beautiful setting. Main complaints were smoke alarms were taken out and on bedroom closest to front door did not have power. Checked circuit brakers but could not get to work

This area of the Chiricahua Mountains is fantastic. Be sure to pack your hiking boots! The cabin was comfortable and clean. Only 2 issues: there was no electricity in the front room (ceiling light and outlets), however the wall heater worked. And, as mentioned by an earlier review, the outside grill is not operational.

The CCC Portal Cabin is a charming two-bedroom stone cabin with an open living area and kitchen. The kitchen appeared clean and recently remodeled, and was well equipped with a double stainless sink, microwave, electric range/oven, 12 cup coffee maker, toaster, and a solid selection of pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. There were also baking pans, a cookie sheet, and useful gadgets like a corkscrew, scissors, cheese grater, and hot pads. Thoughtful previous guests left coffee filters, salt and pepper, a few seasonings, matches, and battery-powered fire starters. Still no can opener! The bathroom also appeared recently remodeled and included a sink, toilet, and walk in shower. There were three rolls of toilet paper available. Sleeping arrangements include one bedroom with a queen and a twin bed, and a second bedroom with a queen bed (which also serves as the entry room, as it contains the front door). All beds had mattress pads and were comfortable. The living area includes a dining table with four wood chairs, along with books and puzzles. There is no sofa or other upholstered seating anywhere in the cabin. Outside, there is a small patio with a metal table and chairs, a picnic table, and a gas grill with an LP tank. However, the grill was not operational during our stay—the internal components had been removed, apparently due to bear damage last fall (per the cabin log). There is no fire ring, and I understand external fires are not permitted. Inside, the cabin has a wood stove, though we relied instead on the electric oil heaters, which warmed the space effectively. We did need to reset a couple of breakers to get the wall-mounted heaters working. While there are a two nearby RVs used by welcome center staff, they are barely noticeable from the cabin. Overall, we found the cabin clean, modern, and full of rustic charm—and the location and surrounding scenery absolutely spectacular.

I enjoyed my stay and would stay again.
Wi-Fi from the visitor center was available until 3:30pm daily which helped me as I am a T Mobile customer. Excellent access to the area. Thank you for maintaining this facility for public use!

This was an excellent experience. Lovely lovely place. I wish there was a can opener in the kitchen tools.

The setting was fantastic with all the cliffs in clear view. In December the cabin was chilly but heated up quickly with the heaters. We loved the wood stove which made for cozy evenings. The kitchen was very well equipped. The books on the corner table were wonderful to learn about the area. Even though it was cold out, the south facing patio was warm in the afternoon and provided a perfect spot to sit with a hot beverage after hiking. We hiked the south fork Cave Creek trail and were amazed at the variety of plants, trees and desert flora along the way. Incomparable beauty! We also hiked trails at the end of the road past the research station and were delighted to find two waterfalls.

The view was amazing and beds were comfortable. However, the lack of living room furniture made for an uncomfortable stay. The listed, and pictured, futon was not present. The only seats were 4 hard, oak and 2 metal porch chairs. The beds were not the same as pictured. A queen in one room and a full and twin in the second room, not the bunks shown.
The access to strong wifi from the cabin was unexpected. It was available when the nearby Visitor Center was open, and even for a bit longer at times.

The accommodations were basic, but just as advertised. We were completely happy. Some of the previous guest had left miscellaneous things like salt and pepper, paper towels, dish, detergent, etc. wonderful experience!
