It would have been 5 stars if the dump station was open. It has not been available for our last three visits. We had to find an alternative and pay. That is very time consuming.

This place is so great, I hesitate to say so publicly for fear more folks will discover it. Clean, quiet. Perfect family camp area. Ranger talks and outdoor movie night. 10,000 frogs for kids to chase in the small subalpine lake when they aren’t fishing. Milky Way splashed across the sky. Camp sites spaced out well and in excellent shape. Worth the extra 25 min drive out of Flag. We used as summer scouting base for fall hunts in surrounding units as there is great OHV access to several AZ hunt units from this location. Kids can fish and be kids while dad got in a little preseason scouting. Camp hosts were great.

It's our go to place! We have not found any other campground in Az. with the same standards as WHL! The hosts are always so nice and friendly, the restrooms are always clean! Camping people seem to be the best people! Love the wild life, close to town if needed but far enough from the highway. It's just the BEST!

Fun campground for families. Lake is a plus and the ranger activities were also fun. Partial dirt road to reach the campground.

The staff is so friendly! Our campsite was clean 24/7 because the staff is on top of keeping the area clean. It was a lot of fun and the whole family, 6 adults 4 children and 2 dogs enjoyed it so much!! Definitely planning on going again this year.

I almost feel bad posting this review. I will start with the good things. The campground was very clean and well maintained. Scenic and away from it all.
Now the bad, at least from my perspective. I guess the real problem was the description of the campground which in my case couldn't have been more wrong. This won't be verbatim, but it was something along the lines of " a quiet place where fishermen enjoy solitude." In fact, the camp spaces could not possibly be crammed closer together. This is in the tent only area. I would gauge it to be around 25 ft between campfires. with tents from your campsite and your neighbors campsite picnic tables, coolers etc. all from 2 campers crammed in between. and you have campsites around you on all 4 sides. Add to that the atmosphere of a giant party going all night, some incredibly self centered people who showed up at 10:30pm and began setting up, making coffee and a big meal with several bright lanterns and no consideration for anyone other than themselves.
I left after the 1st night even though I paid for 4 nights. I have little interest in camping within Az since. Colorado is not that far.
Some people probably think this sounds fun, but it was not what the description said and that is what ruined everything for my family.
