What Guests Are Saying
Shouse Ford offers a beautiful and peaceful camping experience with friendly rangers and clean facilities, making it a favorite destination for many visitors. While some campers noted issues such as lack of cell service, maintenance concerns, and the condition of tent pads, the overall ambiance and spaciousness of the campground contributed to enjoyable stays. Recommendations for improvements include adding water hookups at campsites and enhancing ground maintenance, but many still plan to return for future visits.

Restrooms need ventilation fans and better lighting. Water hook up would be a nice addition for the camp sites as well. But overall nice camping experience as usual

Older campground, great for walking. No water hook ups, so fill up your fresh water tank! Bathrooms are old and out dated but they keep them clean.

Campsites are unorganized. #19 is where we were. #20 backs in and when we open our door the corner of 20 is in our face. We moved our lounge area and had to walk down/ up over roots. Terrible! Campsites had multiple vehicles making it dangerous to drive. I could go on and on. Want be back!

We love Shouse Ford & Lake DeGray, but this trip left a lot to desire. Check in day was postponed due to a major accident that blocked access to the park. We called and notified the park. All is okay. The next day was delayed by severe storms in the area. We arrived about 4 PM. Backed in, leveled up, unhooked the fifth wheel camper from the truck, plugged in the power cord and one leg of the 50 amp service malfunctioned so no power. No other usable sites were available so we had to reconnect, undo the leveling, put all the blocks away and drive back home on a promise that it would be fixed by Monday and they would call us. No contact came on Monday. Called Tuesday and finally got someone to check. They did call back and said it was fixed. So back down we go for another set up. This time everything worked. They did refund us for the five days we could not use the park but nothing for the fuel on two trucks that pull the camper and boat. $77.00 of diesel and about $50.00 of gas out of my pocket for the wasted round trip due to an electrical problem where they had no one available or on call for repair service. The camp site was great, right on the water and next to the swim area, but the COE could do a better job of maintenance.

the bathroom on the circle we stayed in did not have hot water and the toilets' would not flush. Their is rust on the bathroom doors and at the bottom they are decaying quickly. In the women's shower their where dirt dobbers' flying around all week. Their nest was on the ceiling in the center. The ladies that use to clean the restrooms would take a water hose and clean the bathrooms real nice. And they knocked down all the dirt dobbers next and got all the spider webs. their is no beach. Use to the swimming area had sand now its just hard rocks. !! Why did yall stop with putting sand on the beach. What happen to all the rangers that would come around and pass out cheap toys to the little kids. I grew up on this lake and at this site and their use to be shows at the Amphitheater, turtle races, and rangers that would bring different animals for show and tell. this you must reserve a pad is ridiculous! I can never get on the pad I want even if I try and book my normal 2 week vacation like I do every year because somewhere in the 10 days will be locked for booking since it is longer then the 6 months. it has just really gone down hill. My granny had me all summer at Shouseford. I come every year for two weeks for the past 20 years. Now I have grandkids that come with me. I just wish it would get back to being the place where wonderful memories are made. Also while I was there a lil girl was walking a dog that was twice her size and the dog got lose and ran over to someone else dogs that where on a cable on their pad and the owner had to help the lil girl get her dog back in control before their where serious injuries. Same thing happen last year where a dog was lose and entered someone elses camp site where their dogs was secured. Rangers do not come around as much as they should and the people working the office do not come around like they should. Instead the new people put up a sign saying must check in before entry. They seem like nice people but only doing their ba
