What Guests Are Saying
Choctaw Recreation Area is a beautiful and well-maintained park with polite staff and spacious campsites, particularly in Section D, which offers great views of the lake. Many visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the park and its peaceful atmosphere, making it a favorite spot for family camping. However, there are concerns about the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the lack of water hookups at campsites, along with some trash overflow issues.

Choctaw campground is my favorite campground to stay at. The staff is so friendly. I have been coming here since I was a young child. So for roughly 20 years I’ve been camping here. I now bring my kids here and let them do things I used to do as a kid. Choctaw will always hold a special place in my heart.
Also, the campground is so clean and the spots are the perfect side and easy to get into.

Restrooms were atrocious, toilets plugged, feces all over floors both in area b and across from boat ramp parking. Overly restrictive burn ban. Did not allow any out side fire except to cook and required it to be extinguished immediately when completed. To many roads gated, preventing easy movement around campground.

Site D-9 is absolutely lovely, long and pretty level, it was not difficult to back in, although we did have to encroach on the site across from it to get into the site (thankfully no giant boulders or bollards in the way). We arrived in the dark - filling our tanks with water at the very clean dump station was no problem. Dumping on our way out was fine - plenty of room to get in and out, but with only one dump for so many sites I bet there are long wait lines in the summer months. Trash bins are between the entrance and the dump station - maybe 100 yards apart. Finding our site in the dark was very difficult as the COE map is quite vague and satellite maps can’t help because of the fantastic tree cover in the park. Leaves were covering the site numbers painted on the road, and many sites have two spots (one for a camper, one for a boat?) but we figured it out. This site has a great view of the lake and neighboring swim beach, and had a nice mix of sun (not enough for solar) and shade (but open sky just behind the site - perfect if you use Starlink). Our AT&T cell service worked great. Lots of opportunities for walking. We never saw a ranger (November is off peak season) but the campground was quiet and other campers were pleasant. All sites were very tidy. Fuel, firewood, and convenience items are available 4 miles away, and groceries, restaurants, services in Clinton to the north or Greenbrier to the south. We definitely plan to camp here again.

Choctaw campground has been a favorite spot for our family for the last 40 years. My husband‘s grandparents brought all the grandkids here in the 70s and 80s. Our three girls grew up riding bikes, finding seashells, interesting rocks, and Driftwood on walks on the beach. It’s still our favorite place to go with our four year old granddaughter. On this particular visit, we had five generations roasting marshmallows as the full moon Came up over the water. Choctaw Campground is a wonderful place to spend time with family and friends. We always enjoy the clean showers and restrooms. The park is always nice and tidy. We highly recommend and encourage you to visit this wonderful space.

We loved our stay at Choctaw park . Walking the park and around the lake beach is wonderful. I have a new friend a little squirrel that loved peanuts And the deer that walk the park are beautiful. The shower house was so convenient. The camp areas were large and very well maintained.
This will be our favorite go to camp area forever.

This site is very private, it’s off to itself. It’s right on the water but doesn’t have water access. It was quiet and clean. The bathrooms at this campground haven’t been updated since it was opened and you can tell. They are in serious need of updating. Otherwise it was nice and clean.

Beautiful campsite, quiet and very peaceful. Bathhouses were awful though, if we ever come back I'll def bring my portable toilet and shower!

The D loop is real nice. Newly updated. We did have to change sites because the driveway wasn’t at an angle and there were 2 trees at the end of the driveway that made it impossible to back in. We have a 35 ft 5th wheel. (D07). If you have a smaller unit it might work. The lady at the check in booth was so helpful!! She helped me change our site. It is a beautiful area. We would go there again.
