About John F Kennedy

John F. Kennedy Park is located on the Little Red River just downstream of Greers Ferry Dam in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of north-central Arkansas. In his last major appearance before his death, President John F. Kennedy stood on a flag-draped platform overlooking the just-completed Greers Ferry Dam and spoke of the prosperity the lake would bring to the region. Today, a million visitors flock yearly to the scenic waters for family camping, fishing, boating and hiking.

John F. Kennedy Park offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience with spacious, clean sites and friendly staff. Visitors appreciate the peaceful atmosphere, stunning scenery, and excellent fishing opportunities, particularly for rainbow trout. This is a busy park. I was parked beside people that had 4 dogs that barked all the time. A Ranger talked to them and they kept the dogs inside but slacked off after two days. The dogs were in a pin that was within 10 feet of my vehicle.
Most of the pet owners don't pick up after their pets at their sites or along the roads.
People drive faster than the 10mph posted speed limit with kids playing in and running across the streets.

One thing I didn't like is that we had to be told by a tour guide that where we were trout fishing was catch and release. We didn't see a sign where we camped or nexted to us. When I did see them they were these 1 foot green and white signs next to the woods. They need to make them bigger and on the road and say from start to where it finishes. Plus, you can fish there they flood the place to much and the only place to catch fish is in the area where you have to release them after you catch them. We took and left a night early because of all that. We won't go back there ever again, it's not worth it.

JFK has always been an easy choice for our family. It's a beautiful campground, very well taken care of with good space for each campsite and the amenities needed readily available.
JFK has walking/hiking trails through the woods and by the creek, leading to the river.
It is, of course, very busy with fishing action on the Little Red, as well as the trout fish hatchery on site. Even with all the action it still stays fairly quiet. Playgrounds for the kids, a fishing dock for the land locked, a boat ramp, a pavilion for group activities, and decent bathroom facilities are all nice extras to find after you speak to the friendly folks at the front gate.
We'll keep coming back to this one as long as we camp or fish.
