I only camp there from October - Feb, sometimes into March. I tent camp as I love the cold weather and I usually have a dog or 2 with me and even family every now and then. :)
I enjoy the stillness of camping this time of year. Just listen to the wind in the trees and abundant wild life making all kind of music. It really de-stresses me from my job and living in the Memphis area. ( sorry Memphis )
Meals are cooked on the campfire, and steaks grilled right on the coals. "Ranger" Steve can give you a phone # to get local fire wood. The Flippin Walmart or Harps are an easy drive for any incidentals. Connie's or Gaston's breakfast is a nice break from getting a fire going on those 20 - 30 degree mornings. ( did I mention I like the cold? ) The 178 club is a must when family is with me and its Cajun chicken pasta and or burgers all around. Grab a gallon of water and walk the Dogwood trail. It's great exercise and the view from point 1 is your reward. We usually have a lunch there. And don't forget to walk down to the boat ramp and take a dip in the very frigid waters of Bull Shoals Lake.... it clears the cob webs right up!!
