Unfortunately, on our drive to Crystal Springs on the afternoon of our camping reservation, we started smelling smoke and then seeing flames in the forest along the side of the road. When we arrived at the campground, the smoke was very thick and the smell was overpowering. Even though we didn't see anyone, the campground host told us they were doing a "controlled burn". He said this happens periodically. So, beware, and I would recommend you call ahead (if you can find any number to call!) to see if they are burning in the area during your stay. We drove about 10 mi down the road to another federal campground, Tompkins Bend, and thankfully the wind kept the smoke away from that park. We enjoyed that area very much.

It was a little weird to have to do self check in since no attendant was at the front entrance gate. But, it worked just fine. A great experience over all.

It’s a beautiful place. We enjoyed being there in March with comfortable temperatures and no bugs. Everyone was friendly and welcoming.

Our spot was right on the water. Very nice. Campground full during Spring break but still a good experience. Everyone polite. Location close to the horse races.

Always enjoy crystal springs. We usually are in B loop but were in C this time. Loved our site as water was up and it was cool so lack of shade wasn’t a problem. Like A loop showers better. I’m 5’7” and has to squat some for shower. Can’t imagine what someone taller had to do. Overall it was great.

We had a nice, quiet stay at Crystal Springs. My two year old granddaughter loved the playground and sandy beach. Even though the campground was full, it was very quiet. Everyone was friendly.

It was a lovely campground. The views were beautiful and our kids loved being right on the swim beach. The camp was pretty quite except for a few loud boats from time to time. There were nice hiking trails nearby and it was a short drive to Hot Springs. The bathrooms and showers were clean but had no soap or hand sanitizer.
