Plaskett Creek Campground

This is a really nice campground, and my visit last week was my second one.
What I liked best:
1. The parking pads are paved, and most are reasonably level side-to-side. A few of them have enough of a front-to-back slope that leveling a large RV might require use of wood leveling blocks under your jacks. When you make your reservation, don't forget to check the length of the parking pad so that you can be sure that it's long enough for your rig. Some of the sites are as short as 20 ft, the longest are about 40 ft.
2. There are lots of water spigots scattered around, so you generally don't have to walk more than 50 ft from most of the sites to get water.
3. It's an easy walk from the campground down to Sand Dollar Beach. Be sure to check the tides for San Simeon on the NOAA website before you leave: the beach completely disappears at high tide, so you want to know in advance when the low tides are going to be during your visit.
4. The path down to the beach is a bit rough and rutted for about 200 ft; if you are "older", or just not in the best of shape, I recommend trekking poles to help you get safely through the rough part of the trail.
5. There is no water faucet at the Beach parking area. Be sure to bring drinking water for your day at the beach.
6. There is a $10 day use fee for the Beach, but if you display your Camping receipt on your mirror, the fee is waived.
7. Both times I've been to this campground, the water faucets in the restroom sinks were disabled due to a water shortage. So plan on washing up after using the restroom at your campsite. There is no electric light anywhere in the campground, including the restrooms, so be sure you have a flashlight, as the restrooms are pitch dark after sunset.
8. 26 mi south of Plaskett Creek, at Point Piedras Blancas, is an elephant seal rookery beach that is well worth a visit if you make a day trip down the coast during your camping trip.

Nice quiet campground within walking distance to sand dollar beach. Lots of shade trees.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. One staff sat with us for an hour trying to get our dead battery charged. It was very kind. We stayed in campsite 8 and while it was a beautiful site, it had major drawbacks. First, there are generators that are literally running all night long directly behind the site. No idea why, but it is very loud, makes it hard to sleep. There is also a gate at the back of the site that is an entrance to and from a staff area where the generators are located. So, we had campsite staff coming in and out of our site randomly throughout the day and night. They were tremendously polite about it, but it was a bit obnoxious to have someone suddenly walking through our site unannounced in the pitch dark or in the early morning. Overall, Plaskett Creek campsite is a beautiful place, and we will definitely be back, but we will never stay at site 8 again.

They gave our place to someone else (even though we reserved with time) and the people in out spot did not want to move so we had to wait a couple hours before we could get another spot. Plus I thought $15 dollars for a small stack of wood for burning was kind of pricey. Overall it was good thought.
