Plaskett Creek Campground is a lovely site. It's located on a very remote section of the Central California Coast, 60 miles south of Monterrey, so getting there is a long drive from just about anywhere else, but well worth it. I was in site #37, and I liked these particular features:
1. The parking pad for site #37 is mostly very flat, and it's long enough that I was able to get both my car and my 10' x 14' tent on the pad.
2. There is a water spigot, and trash cans, just across the road, 20 feet away.
3. The closest restroom is right behind the site, only 60 feet away, so very easy access to both water and the restroom for tent campers.
4. The site is well-shaded for much of the day.
5. The picnic table was extra-large, and in good condition. This would be a good site for a large family.
Being right on the coast, the climate is mild year round; not too hot in summer or too cold in winter; again, very nice for tent camping in any season.
Sand Dollar Beach is only 0.4 miles from Site #37, an easy walk for anyone in reasonably good shape.
The only problems encountered on my visit:
The water system is partially shut down: there's no water in the restroom sinks at all, although the toilets still flush. Several of the restrooms are locked. I was told that this is to reduce stress on the sewage system, which is "having problems", according to the campground host.
The spigots at the campsites are still operating, but the water is non-potable. Drinking water has to be either brought from home, or obtained at Kirk Creek, 5 miles north. I gave the campground 4-star rating instead of 5 stars because of the water situation. If the water problem gets fixed, the campground is definitely worth 5-stars.
There is no electricity anywhere in the campground, thus the restrooms are pitch-dark after nightfall. Be sure to bring a flashlight or two, you'll need them.
I've already made a reservation for next March.
Overall Rating: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Although the campground was nearly totally filled, the campground remained peacefully serene. Definitely walk up the road to Sand Dollar Beach.

a foggy day so no visibility of the coast. there is a hiking trail that goes all the way to a high ridge. on a good weather day, the views are great. in spring, the wildflowers are wonderful.

The property is beautiful with mature trees and large sites. The drawbacks are no electricity, no pump out, campfires prohibited while we were there 11/6/21. Other state campgrounds allowed campfires. Bathrooms were clean, but no water for sink and no showers available.
I understand Big Sur is trying to be about “rustic”, but we are full time RVERS, retired, can’t do rustic anymore and still love Big Sur in all its natural beauty. There are no other campgrounds in the area that can accommodate our big rig. 😔

I was afraid of the noise being so close to the highway. But I was treated with beautiful sounds of waves, ample hiking areas and beautiful beaches. The campsites are very large, with few big trees in between campers. A slight slope to all the sites, but still quite nice.

Disappointing. Loud. Unclean. We had heard from other central coast residents that this beautiful campground has really gone down hill from the place we all fondly remember and we unfortunately agree.
