Lightning Tree is praised for its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful views, and friendly, attentive camp host, Steven. We love Lightning tree. The only downside they no longer leave this campground open year round. Fall camping was wonderful, and access for hunters and fishermen to camp.
Most of us dry camp, so it’s not necessary for the water to be on or restrooms open.
It was always a No Host campground in the off season.

Camp host was very nice. The site was not, it was covered in hard bushes and not ideal for tent camping at all. We were able to move to another site that had some weeds/bushes cleared but we were all cramped into one area. I didn’t know half the sites were owned by government and they are not maintained at all. If we wanted a good site we would have to pay again. No lake access so we had to drive 15 minutes which wasn’t bad. Definitely will not be back to this campground.

Other than the heat, it was an excellent experience. The camp host is amazing and her grandkids were nice and played with our son. The campground is one of our favorites as it’s usually not crowded and the spaces are spaced out well so you’re not on top of each other. This is an excellent place to camp.

Great campground away from everything else. Saw lots of wildlife right from our campsite. Bathrooms weren't stocked for the first few days we were there which was rough, but overall a nice campground.

We stayed at site#9. A great campsite except for a few things:
this one is right by the trail to the lake so there is some foot traffic.
the grill over the fire pit was a little unstable.
It is a little buggy, lots of gnats and some mosquitoes.
It was a bit unclear if the water was drinkable or not, there was a sign at the front that says non potable water but the water spickets didn't have a sign on them.
The camp host wasn't super attentive we didn't see them until we were leaving, it would've been nice if they greeted us and told us where to get more firewood.
Other than beautiful area. Nice quiet campsite. Saw lots of cool wildlife. It's nice being close to the lake.

Nice quiet campground away from everyone else. This site was very large with plenty of space for a big group. A little walk to the water and the boat ramp area, but it's a well marked out trail.
