What Guests Are Saying

Dark Day Campground is a beautiful site surrounded by trees, offering great swimming opportunities. However, it requires a downhill hike from parking to the campsites, and amenities like vault toilets need improvement. Visitors noted issues with noise from large groups and broken facilities, but many expressed a desire to return for a quieter experience.

Pretty campground with lots of trees. Not your typical car camping though since it’s a several minute downhill hike from parking to the campsites.
There is no camp host onsite or in nearby park facilities and cell service is very weak. A large group held half the sites when I was there in September ‘25 with my youngsters. During the day the group let their dogs run wild throughout the campground and each night they held parties past midnight with loud music, bright lights, and occasional drunken fist fights among their own guests.

I got there on a Saturday and people were in the campsite so I didn’t get to stay overnight. The place itself is gorgeous

Going to the water to swim is great even if you don't have a boat.

Two of the bar boxes are broken in this campsite. They’re broken at the hinges from bad welds. Since the manufacturers name is on the side of the bar box and they appear to be somewhat local, maybe they can come fix their product. Probably a five minute job with a portable welder.

The filter for this campsite says it accommodates an RV. This is conflicting information and this site is for tent camping only.

A knew camping at Dark Day as an adult was not going to be the same as when I was kid but I thought maybe it would still be nice, but it was kind of awful. To be fair I would never normally go camping on a Saturday but it was the only day that we had off together and we were like packed right up against other people, there was so many people there it was like ants on Ant Hill. There wasn't anything pleasant or relaxing or quiet about it. But I guess that's just the nature of camping on a day when everybody else wants to camp. We ended up packing up and leaving a few hours after we got there. It just wasn't for us. Also listen, I know that Vault toilets are always going to smell but we were way way down past the Vault toilet the furthest campsite from it and you could still smell it. When we first got there some poor woman was leaning up against it retching because the smell was so bad😅😅🤮

The best part was the boat rental defiantly would like to try camping again for FREE since the experience wasn't great and our reservation was taken by unpaid customers with no reservation

No Show Policy
A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival).
* No-show customers are only recorded at staffed facilities. At most remote facilities, all customers are noted as automatically checked-in on the date of arrival.
* It is recommended that staffed facilities hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date.
* It is recommended that staffed facilities hold group day-use facilities until check-in time on the arrival date.
There is no change fee if a customer extends or shortens a reservation if the change includes dates from the original reservation. If they choose to depart early, they may forfeit some or all of the recreation fees.
There is no change fee if the customer changes campsites that are the same price and on the same reservation dates in the same campground. If the campsite the customer is changing to has a price difference, the customer will be responsible for any additional fees or be provided with a refund, based on the price difference.
Where recorded, no-show customers are assessed a $20.00 no-show fee and forfeit the first night's recreation fee for a campsite or forfeit the entire day-use recreation fee for a day-use facility. We recommend customers contact the facility if they are en route to their reservation but cannot make it by the check-in date. In these cases, no refund will be issued, but the facility can ensure that a "no-show" fee is not assessed.
