Dark Day Campground

Campsite used to be really nice been coming here for 12 years now and maintenance is down big time. There is 3 bear boxes one has a missing door, one has a broken hinge and no key other barely opens. Fire pit grill is bent down into the fire pit. Your better off going to hornswoggle or French’s camp which is a few minutes up the road.

Excellent sites, it was very quiet. Water was beautiful.

Dark Day was a great campground. We were there on Labor day and it was not crowded at all. 3A/D and 2A/D were great spacious spots. You can walk to the water---it is a 5+ minute walk down a trail. There was a bear in the campsite when we arrived at night and it dug through the dumpster nearby in the middle of the night. The food lockers are spacious and have 2 for each of our double sites. There are only vault toilets. There was a water spigot, but unclear if it was potable. There were fire restrictions so we were not allowed to burn a wood fire in early September. The water is beautiful and there is a great trail right next to the campsite that runs along the water.

Everything was wonderful, but the bathrooms needs some serious TLC

We stayed in 3D campsite. The camp site is very good and as it was last in the double campsite we had our privacy compared to other two where we have to walk though there site all the time to reach our cars and a short walk to the lake with clear water is a bonus.
But not having flush toilets even though in the campsite description said flush toilets was disappointing and the adjacent campsite people were playing loud music and talking till 2 am was very irritating

If those two were not there it’s a beautiful campground

There was not a clear direction to the the campground itself nor the exact location of our campsite which was not clearly marked nor exactly where the camp bounderies are. The picnic table at the site was so dilapidated it was being held up on one side by a log. The brush needs to be trimmed around the campsites as well.

The pit toilet at A group (sites 5-10) was the worst I've ever experienced. It was unusable. The ammonia from the waste was so strong it burned your lungs to be in there. We ended up driving up the hill to the parking lot restroom every time we had to go. It was clean and we saw it being serviced while we were there. Also the picnic tables are in pretty bad shape. Site 8 table had a big hole in it. Local kids will party at the day use parking lot until the middle of the night. Bring earplugs.

Despite all this we loved the location. It was quite during the week days with only 3 of the sites occupied end of July, though all sites were reserved. I don't think they enforce the no-show policy/fee. The water was warm and the kids loved it. It's close to a popular Yuba river swimming hole, so we did that for an afternoon too.

Group sites 1-3 are very small and not a lot of room/spots for tents. We got lucky camp 2 showed up and left due to lack of space and site 3 never showed up.

This campground was terrible. The site was located on a steep slope, making it very uncomfortable and inconvenient. The picnic table was completely rotten and was literally falling apart. The water spigot was located all the way up near the parking area, which was inconvenient.

The restrooms were not maintained at all and were basically unusable. For such a high price, this place offers absolutely nothing worth the cost. Very disappointing experience.
