Dixon Lake Recreation Area offers a pleasant camping experience with stunning city views at night and clean, accessible sites. The elevated campground is great for families and provides easy access to hiking and biking trails. While there are some concerns about wildlife and limited hiking options nearby, the friendly staff and overall ambiance make it a recommendable destination for campers.

Great camping area. It's not a resort style campground, but more like back country views and vibes. Rangers regularly patrol until midnight. Beware of the raccoons.
The higher up the mountain you camp the better your views are gonna be, but some of the lower campsites have a good view of the lake.
Only complaint is that most of the hiking trails are on the opposite side of the lake so you have to drive to them from the camp grounds unless you want to hike a couple of miles up hill. There isn't a lot of options for car campers with a tent attached to their vehicle also, so be aware of that if that's your camping style and be willing to compromise on your site.
Sites without hook ups are $35 a night, hook ups are $60 a night, dogs are $1 a night per dog.

Nice campground, we had to cone off our area though otherwise we had a lot of cars driving up to get the view. There can be ants (it was in the fall) so good to be prepared for that. Staff were generally nice and accommodating. Would recommend.

We had a great camping experience. We went as a group. Everybody was very nice, from the front desk at check in ,to the very friendly rangers that round checked on us. Kudos to this people. A perfect place to camp. Everybody in our group had a great time. We would definitely come back.

A great place to camp! Just along the north side of Escondido. I’ve been fishing here for years, but finally had a chance to camp. Clean camp sites, $30 feet per night. The campground is elevated which offers great views of the lake or the city of Escondido. Great for kids, bring bikes and scooters. Right next to Daley Ranch, a very popular spot for hiking and mountain biking. It can get very hot here in the late summer. Plan your shade accordingly!
