Ahart Campground is a serene retreat ideal for those seeking a rustic camping experience away from crowds, featuring spacious, well-maintained sites near a calming stream. While amenities are limited—no water source, showers, or electricity—each site includes essential features like picnic tables and bear boxes. The campground's natural beauty, clean facilities, and opportunity for stargazing make it a perfect choice for nature lovers, though visitors should prepare for self-sufficiency and potential noise from nearby campers.

If you are looking to truly unplug and immerse yourself in nature, Ahart Campground is a hidden gem. It offers a beautiful, spacious, and incredibly quiet experience for those who prefer a more rustic style of camping. Please note there is no reception at all, but you can text if you have satellite access.
The grounds are impressively clean and well-maintained, with a lovely stream running right along the backside of the campground, perfect for falling asleep to the sound of water.
What to Expect
• Amenities: Each site includes a picnic table, a bear box for safe food storage, and a fire pit with a grill topper.
• Facilities: There is an outhouse on-site. It is a non-flushing vault toilet (a toilet over a deep pit), so come prepared.
• The Vibe: Plenty of natural shade from the trees, though the sites are large enough that you might want a canopy for specific areas.
Essential Packing List
Because this is a "dry" campground, you need to be fully self-sufficient. I recommend bringing:
• Water: Bring more than you think you’ll need for drinking, cooking, and washing. There is no water source on-site.
• Hygiene: Bring a portable camping shower (no showers available), plenty of cleaning wipes, and your own toilet paper.
• Light & Tech: Since there is no electricity, bring solar or battery-powered lanterns. The stargazing here is phenomenal, so a telescope is a must-pack item!
• Cooking: While there is a fire pit, bringing a dedicated camping stove will make meal prep much easier.
Getting There & Tips
• The Route: For a more scenic and less stressful drive, I highly recommend coming in through Georgetown.
• Fuel & Food: Fill up your gas tank and double-check your supplies in town. The nearest store is a 3-hour round trip, so you don't want to forget the essentials.
Overall, Ahart is perfect for campers who love the "back-to-basics" feel without the crowds. It’s a peaceful, scenic retreat that really allows you to disconnect from the world.

The campground was beautiful and the proximity to the reservoir was great.

When arriving, know there is a long winding (but paved!) road to take getting down. It's about an hour on this road to the campsite, but it's all paved so there's not any issues.

There are bear boxes at every campsite and anti-bear trashcans. There's a creek next to the campsite and a reservoir about five minutes away by driving. The reservoir area is $5 per day, so bring cash. There is a bathroom that was very clean, but no sinks or showers. You will need to have a water jug to use for brushing your teeth, washing hands etc.

The campsites are beautiful. There isn't much privacy between campsites, so you have to trust your neighbors. Unfortunately, ours liked to play very loud music, but the surrounding nature was beautiful and made a perfect weekend .

It was wonderful! Had a great time
The only negative was a group of motorcycle campers came , set camp up, left early in the morning but left a huge log in the fire pit lit and smoking. US forestry came and put it out. They did not have reservations for that campsite that night.

Very good place to be, out of the cities and no internet connection so it allows you to really disconnect, while you’re still one hour away from civilization. The only negative point is that we tried fishing but there was no success, but also we didn’t get up early to start so maybe it was our fault. Would come back again.
