It was quiet and fun. No loud music or screaming kids. The water was perfect. The weather was perfect. A few too many flies but that is to be expected. Getting to build a campfire made all the difference.

Overall great experience. Campsites were clean. Kevin the Campsite worker was awesome. Only thing keeping it from being five stars is the smell coming from the restrooms over to the campsite.

Great time, many trees have been removed so there is less shade. We used multiple pop ups for shade.

It’s too bad the camp host now resides 2 campgrounds away and is no longer available in Giant Gap. Sure they come visit the campground during the day, but there is no one available at night should there be an emergency unless you are able to drive to the other campground and locate the host.
Luckily, we had reasonable campers all around us this trip but we have had experiences in the past where the host had to call the sheriff at midnight due to out of control partiers.

Very beautiful scenery. Nice clean campsites. Some of the bathrooms are not great. Lots of flies in the bathroom we used. Never saw camp host. Usually when we camp here the host comes around at least once to check and see how everything is.

Campsite was great, lake is great. Wish there was a little more shade. No host at the camp this year was an issue, restrictions are camp stoves only but multiples sites had fires. Had to put out a fire myself after a neighboring group left and left their fire lit with a 6' log sticking out of it on fire.
Also, as rodents got into our engine compartment and chewed up some wires, we found out the host at the neighboring camp ground has no satellite phone and isn't supposed to drive anyone into town. Thankfully some camp neighbors helped us with a ride into Foresthill so we could get service and call a tow truck. Love the lake but bad experience this year.

The camp site was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The restrooms were clean and close to camp sites. It is always a great experience to be there. It is beautiful and peaceful!

N0.23 campsite. Good campsite near the lake, with restrooms conveniently located just above the road. The area is peaceful, and the lake is close by, which makes it a nice spot for a relaxing camping trip.
It looks like some of the trees were affected by a fire and had to be removed, so there is less shade around the campsites than there may have been in the past. Overall, it was still a nice place to camp and enjoy the lake.

From Interstate 80, take the Auburn/Ravine Road exit. Continue east for 17 miles to Foresthill. Travel through town, about 9 miles, to Forest Road 10/Sugar Pine Road. Turn left and drive 9 miles, crossing a boat ramp and the dam, to the Sugar Pine Campground. Turn right and continue over a mile to the campground.
Giant Gap Campground is accessible from Interstate 80, which is approximately 17 miles to the west via Auburn/Ravine Road.
Elevation: 1117 feet
19 mi drive to downtown Foresthill (about 32 min)
Policies & Rules
General
- *** Large single unit RVs are not suitable for the campground roads. Even though a site might have a 40 foot parking space, a 40 foot long RV can’t navigate through the campground. Also please remember that site parking length includes trailer and vehicle.***
- Water Faucets: • While safe to drink, the potable water in the campground has a high iron content and visitors may wish to bring their own drinking water. • Visitors may not connect hoses to faucets for sanitation concerns. • Faucets are meant for drinking water only. For sanitation reasons there can be no bathing or cleaning at faucets. • All grey water must be properly disposed of at the dump station. Trash: • Trash should be placed in dumpsters. If the dumpsters are full then trash must be properly stored in a bear box until the dumpster is emptied, or can be taken to the nearest dumpster. This is to avoid wildlife getting in the trash and dispersing it through the forest. • Make sure to properly close/lock dumpsters to avoid wildlife getting in the trash. Campsite: • Camp only in designated camping areas. Areas beyond the campground could have hazard trees. • Only park in designated parking spaces. Parking off of pavement in camping areas is prohibited. • No parking in or blocking road ways. • Keep food in bear boxes at all times. • If visitors need to hang things they can use rachets straps or bungees. Using screws, nails, and staples is prohibited. • Stapling into the preparation tables and/or picnic tables is prohibited due to the damage it causes. • Cutting or damaging standing trees is prohibited. • Collecting dead wood is highly encouraged. Visitors must have a wood cutting permit to cut wood on the ground. • DAY USE: • NO Swimming on or around the boat dock/ ramp. Swimmers must stay 100 feet away at all times to keep a safe distance from boat traffic. • Park in designated parking spots. No parking along painted curbs or by boat ramp. • All vehicles must pay for day use parking at the Sugar Pine Day Use Area. The $5.00 Day use parking is not included in the camping fee. Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. - This is not Sugar Pine Point State Park
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect California's forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. For more information visit firewood.ca.gov.
- Off-road vehicle use is prohibited within Sugar Pine Complex, except for in the staging area, at the turnoff to Big Reservoir, such as Sugarpine OHV and Parker Flat.
