The camp hosts never came around and the toilets were out of TP the entire time we were there. The site was absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. I have camped her for over 30 years and love the lake. I wish they'd clear the felled trees from the shore from the fire last year.

Don't go there if you have a trailer. The road from Colfax turns to a one car road, hairpin turns, and very steep. recreation.gov should not encourage and should not allow trailers into this camp site. Too dangerous.

It was a very nice campsite. Only issue is I have is some park official decided to lock the restroom near my campsite for the season even though the season wasn't done. I specifically chose this sight because it was near the restroom for my disabled sister to not have to walk far.

Peaceful, a lot of families. Bathroom had toilet paper, no problems with the dumpster being full.

When we got there, someone else had taken over our spot. They stated the camp host told them it wasn't reserved. So we had to wait even longer for it to be resolved. There's bees everywhere so that was unfortunate to my son who is highly allergic.

We really like this campground. Nice family atmosphere. Great trail around the lake and perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding. Plenty of areas for swimming. Site 22 was near the water with a trail leading straight to the shore! Many of the trees in 22 are gone and there is longer a place to put a hammock like the photo shows. This also means a lot less shade. From 2:00 on the site is in direct sun so bring an easy up. Water spigot is across from the site and the restrooms were a short walk.

Absolutely awesome spot to camp
All the campsites are well-maintained, restrooms clean. Great hike around the lake takes about 2 hours to complete with plenty of spots to stop and take a dip. The water temperature for swimming is perfect
Be aware that there is poison oak in the area so if you have a little ones, make sure you keep an eye on them.
Make sure you pack, what you know you’re gonna need. If you do forget and need additional supplies, the town of Forest Hill is about 20 miles away. Not a big inconvenience, but definitely helps to be fully prepared.

From Interstate 80, take the Auburn/Ravine Road exit. Continue east for 17 miles to Foresthill. Travel through town, about 9 miles, to Forest Road 10/Sugar Pine Road. Turn left and drive 9 miles, crossing a boat ramp and the dam, to the Sugar Pine Campground. Turn right and continue over a mile to the campground.
Giant Gap Campground is accessible from Interstate 80, which is approximately 17 miles to the west via Auburn/Ravine Road.
Elevation: 1117 feet
19 mi drive to downtown Foresthill (about 32 min)
Policies & Rules
General
- *** Large single unit RVs are not suitable for the campground roads. Even though a site might have a 40 foot parking space, a 40 foot long RV can’t navigate through the campground. Also please remember that site parking length includes trailer and vehicle.***
- Water Faucets: • While safe to drink, the potable water in the campground has a high iron content and visitors may wish to bring their own drinking water. • Visitors may not connect hoses to faucets for sanitation concerns. • Faucets are meant for drinking water only. For sanitation reasons there can be no bathing or cleaning at faucets. • All grey water must be properly disposed of at the dump station. Trash: • Trash should be placed in dumpsters. If the dumpsters are full then trash must be properly stored in a bear box until the dumpster is emptied, or can be taken to the nearest dumpster. This is to avoid wildlife getting in the trash and dispersing it through the forest. • Make sure to properly close/lock dumpsters to avoid wildlife getting in the trash. Campsite: • Camp only in designated camping areas. Areas beyond the campground could have hazard trees. • Only park in designated parking spaces. Parking off of pavement in camping areas is prohibited. • No parking in or blocking road ways. • Keep food in bear boxes at all times. • If visitors need to hang things they can use rachets straps or bungees. Using screws, nails, and staples is prohibited. • Stapling into the preparation tables and/or picnic tables is prohibited due to the damage it causes. • Cutting or damaging standing trees is prohibited. • Collecting dead wood is highly encouraged. Visitors must have a wood cutting permit to cut wood on the ground. • DAY USE: • NO Swimming on or around the boat dock/ ramp. Swimmers must stay 100 feet away at all times to keep a safe distance from boat traffic. • Park in designated parking spots. No parking along painted curbs or by boat ramp. • All vehicles must pay for day use parking at the Sugar Pine Day Use Area. The $5.00 Day use parking is not included in the camping fee. Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. - This is not Sugar Pine Point State Park
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect California's forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. For more information visit firewood.ca.gov.
- Off-road vehicle use is prohibited within Sugar Pine Complex, except for in the staging area, at the turnoff to Big Reservoir, such as Sugarpine OHV and Parker Flat.
