My family has been coming here for the last 25 years. Love this place. But this last trip was a nightmare. We always get campsite 9 and 8. They are so close together that it should be one campsite. I don’t mind paying for the two camps. This year #8 was not reservable. I drove up two days before to see if I could pay the camp host. She said no, but if no one was there on Tuesday when we arrive we could pay for it and park there. Got there on Tuesday and no one was in
Camp #8. I went and found the camp host and she was very rude and said that has to be reserved online. I said no I tried and it is X out. She said only the camp host could???? So then my other family members came and we all set up in # 9, but were not happy. Then another camp host came by. I asked him why we can’t pay for number 8. He said it is used when they overbook. I said, so you are saying I am willing to pay full price, but if someone else comes in later and doesn’t have a reservation you will give it to them???? He said if you are want to pay for it I see your point. So I went up to the paid box and paid and put the tag on my car and on campsite 8. So the next day we were down at the lake and we come back there was very nasty note to remove our belongings from campsite 8, and my tag was removed from the little sign out front. I walked over to the camp host and said, I paid for this and I don’t see any reason in the middle of my vacation to say we have to be removed from Camp 8. She said rules are rules. I said I paid my money, and you really know how to spoil a yearly family vacation that we have come up here for years. I told her another camp host told us we could pay. She yelled something to me and slammed her trailer door. Mind you we only had two tents up not even a trailer and were very quite people. After that experience we left early the next morning even though we had paid for two more days. Very disappointing, And there were other empty campsites.

If you find you want a guaranteed great camping experience, visit Sugar Pine Reservoir at the Giant Gap campground. You will find clean camp sites, and a well managed by Anna, and Jeff. The best hosts ever. The lake is just the best I have ever been to, surrounded by pine trees and majestic views.

Anna and Jeff, ( cowboy ) are the best camp hosts ever. I always look forward to seeing them when I visit Sugar pine reservoir, Giant Gap side. Great peoples.

The campy host was incredibly attentive for my entire stay with Regular patrols and bathroom maintenance. The lake is beautiful for a swim, kayak, float, fishing , or paddle board. All campsites appeared to have good shade options to escape heat. I recommend hiking all around the lake, it was great seeing it from all sides!

The lake is clean and beautiful! The sites are good, we had one with a freestanding bbq so there was not a grate on the campfire ring, so we wished we brought charcoal. The pit toilets are smelly, I'd avoid getting a site that is near them because the wind drifts the odor.

This is a very picturesque and well maintained location. Easy water access makes this a perfect spot to bring your kayak or go for an easy walk around the reservoir. Spaced out campsites, trees and shrubs also give campers good privacy.

This is a beautiful lake and great for families. Swimming was perfect and lots of safe paddling, water toy possibilities. The bathrooms are pretty smelly though, especially when people pee on the floor. Showers would be nice someday! But it's a great place to regain some peace.

are the best! It is always a wonderful experience. There is no cell service ..
Which being in a a news free zone for three days was a very good thing!

We love this campground and have been coming here for over 30 years. The lake is close and great for swimming. The pit toilets get smelly so try to get a spot away from them. That is truly the only negative of this place. The running water did quit while we were there; We don’t rely on that so we were ok. Not so great for some people I’m sure.

From Interstate 80, take the Auburn/Ravine Road exit. Continue east for 17 miles to Foresthill. Travel through town, about 9 miles, to Forest Road 10/Sugar Pine Road. Turn left and drive 9 miles, crossing a boat ramp and the dam, to the Sugar Pine Campground. Turn right and continue over a mile to the campground.
Giant Gap Campground is accessible from Interstate 80, which is approximately 17 miles to the west via Auburn/Ravine Road.
Elevation: 1117 feet
19 mi drive to downtown Foresthill (about 32 min)
Policies & Rules
General
- *** Large single unit RVs are not suitable for the campground roads. Even though a site might have a 40 foot parking space, a 40 foot long RV can’t navigate through the campground. Also please remember that site parking length includes trailer and vehicle.***
- Water Faucets: • While safe to drink, the potable water in the campground has a high iron content and visitors may wish to bring their own drinking water. • Visitors may not connect hoses to faucets for sanitation concerns. • Faucets are meant for drinking water only. For sanitation reasons there can be no bathing or cleaning at faucets. • All grey water must be properly disposed of at the dump station. Trash: • Trash should be placed in dumpsters. If the dumpsters are full then trash must be properly stored in a bear box until the dumpster is emptied, or can be taken to the nearest dumpster. This is to avoid wildlife getting in the trash and dispersing it through the forest. • Make sure to properly close/lock dumpsters to avoid wildlife getting in the trash. Campsite: • Camp only in designated camping areas. Areas beyond the campground could have hazard trees. • Only park in designated parking spaces. Parking off of pavement in camping areas is prohibited. • No parking in or blocking road ways. • Keep food in bear boxes at all times. • If visitors need to hang things they can use rachets straps or bungees. Using screws, nails, and staples is prohibited. • Stapling into the preparation tables and/or picnic tables is prohibited due to the damage it causes. • Cutting or damaging standing trees is prohibited. • Collecting dead wood is highly encouraged. Visitors must have a wood cutting permit to cut wood on the ground. • DAY USE: • NO Swimming on or around the boat dock/ ramp. Swimmers must stay 100 feet away at all times to keep a safe distance from boat traffic. • Park in designated parking spots. No parking along painted curbs or by boat ramp. • All vehicles must pay for day use parking at the Sugar Pine Day Use Area. The $5.00 Day use parking is not included in the camping fee. Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. - This is not Sugar Pine Point State Park
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect California's forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. For more information visit firewood.ca.gov.
- Off-road vehicle use is prohibited within Sugar Pine Complex, except for in the staging area, at the turnoff to Big Reservoir, such as Sugarpine OHV and Parker Flat.
