Stayed at Camp 3 over Memorial Day Weekend in our RV. The campground was well kept and clean. The camp host was friendly and accommodating but the grounds consist of lots of rocks, foxtail weeds and very little shade. There are some sites along the river that step down and have trees. Our site (16) had a steep paved area and almost all rocks elsewhere. It made it difficult to sleep on such a slant. In addition, we left for the day and came back to find someone stole some of our gear.
I would come back but only if I was able to reserve a site right up against the water.

Five generations of our family have been going to the Kern River. My great-grandparents were coming here with my grandparents in the 40s. My grandparents and my parents and then my parents and grandparents and us as kids. Now I take my kids and grandkids too The Kern River, camp three campground. My parents still enjoy a trip once a year with us. I'm sure there's other beautiful spots to camp on the river. The entire valley is gorgeous. You can spend a day or two hiking and there's still more to see and hike... Camp 3 is our home away from home 2 or 3 times a year. Our longest stay is in July/August, for 10 to 14 days. I can imagine I'll be sharing the Kern River Valley with my great-grandkids soon. Enjoy your trip, make beautiful memories, have a blessed time...and be safe.

We camped four nights in site 36 , the site is little awkward because of all the rocks and Unleveled ground which makes it hard to set up a chair specially around the campfire , although they are not allowing campfires which kind of ruins camping for me . The site has a trail that leads down to a private sandy beach that the kids could swim in a little pool and we tubed from our site down to the end of the campground . Also close to a beach up the road about 5 min that has a nice mellow swimming area and beach , we tubed and paddle boarded with the kids up and down the river . Overall we all had a blast !

Camp Three itself was a good campground. Site 46, however was a bit small with very little shade. Our group rented 46 and 47 and all of us ended up pitching tents on 47.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Camp Three. Site 47 is larger than most of the other sites. It has direct access to the river, which was calm enough to wade out to the middle and relax during the heat of the day. Clean restrooms and water were available nearby. The site itself had a lot of ants, and a skunk lived there too! There were a couple of trees for shade and privacy, but not enough shade to keep our whole setup from getting blasted by the sun. Bring easy-ups.

Unnecessary boulders everywhere. Right in the middle of tent pads. Needs more shade, bring a easy up for sure. Right on kern river so that helps with the heat. Loud jets fly by at least 6x a day.
