Overly nosey host. Ridiculous "no campfire" policy when a quarter mile down the road there are 4-5 private campgrounds which ALL allow campfires. The hypocrisy is wild. California is a failed state. Instead of managing the forests properly and hiring enough firefighters they have instituted a blanket "no campfires" policy. What is the point of camping without a campfire? We took half a truck bed's worth of firewood, ribs, steaks, corn and potatoes. We weren't to cook ANY of it or burn any of the wood. Ruined our trip and we wont be coming back.

Beautiful place where you can enjoy nature and the sound of the river. You can swim and enjoy the cool water of the river.

We stayed on campground 33 and 34. Not ideal, no shade and river is running fast near this campground. We made the best out of though. What really rocked was Gavin, our camp host. He was active and frequently checking in on everyone’s safety and kept the bathrooms clean. Gavin also made it a point to know us, not by chatting it up but just his simple greetings while we were around the campground. Go Gavin!

Third time staying here. Camp site was clean when I arrived. Bathrooms clean. Camp Host was great. He was very attentive to my needs.

We went the week after a holiday just to avoid all the crowd. So it was practically just my family! The host was amazing! He still kept all bathrooms clean and stocked with toilet paper even though most of the time we took ours. Over all. Amazing fun experience at camp three like always!

Campground was good, limited public access to the river, this was very site dependent. Bathrooms were the cleanest vault toilets I have ever seen. Camp host was great.

Been coming here for years and love it so much! Some of the sites have direct access to the river which is such a treat. 2 camp stores within an 8 minute drive and lots of other activities nearby! Clean vault toilets, no cell service :) enjoy the unplugging!

From Highway 99 in Bakersfield, California, take Highway 178 east to Lake Isabella.
From Lake Isabella take Highway 155 around the west side of the lake to
the town of Kernville. Turn north on Sierra Way/Mountain 99 and continue 5 miles to the campground.
Camp Three Campground is accessible via Highway 99 and Highway 178. From Highway 99 in Bakersfield, take Highway 178 east to reach the campground.
Elevation: 868 feet
4.9 mi drive to downtown Kernville (about 9 min)
Policies & Rules
General
- There are no electric hookups
- Swimming in the river is dangerous due to strong currents and other hazards.

- Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. For current fire conditions or weather closures contact the Kern River Ranger District (760) 376-3781.
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect California's forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. For more information visit firewood.ca.gov.
- Glass containers are prohibited in Kern Canyon and Isabella Lake Glass Container Prohibition Area
- There is an extra vehicle fee of $8.00/night on the 2nd vehicle in each single campsite and on the 3rd & 4th vehicle in any double campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the 1st vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the 1st and 2nd are considered to be one vehicle and the 3rd and 4th are also considered to be one vehicle. So the fee would be a single $8.00/night of stay for the 3rd/4th motorcycle.
- Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. Owners must keep their dogs under control at all times or they may be asked to vacate the premise.
