Awesome location right on the river banks. Easy access into the water. Bathrooms were relatively clean. No showers though. Bees are definitely a problem here. Well-located w/ easy access to downtown Kernville.

The campground is great. Most of the campgrounds on the Kern are super convenient with great river access. Headquarters is unique with the tree cover which is significant in moderating what can be a very hot region in summer. My principal complaint, which is not unique to Headquarters, is competing boom boxes. My second complaint again, not related to Headquarters is dubious, often arbitrary and contradictory rules enforcement on the part of the camp host. On this trip, the host was more concerned with obtaining one golden age passport and completely absent reinforcing quiet time after 10PM.

Love the outdoors and I been coming here since I was 13 now I’m 50. Nice and clean and the hosts they been having through the years are very nice. Definitely I will keep recommending this site to friends and family.
